Happy St. Scheduling Day!

You all know the patron saint of scheduling, right? Well she just came down from the calendar tower and bestowed the next few weeks upon us mere mortals. And because we like you. I mean, we really, really like you, we’re sharing with you…

Friday Night Who on 2/19 is a return to NuWho with “The Girl Who Died”

Traveling The Vortex episode #269 will have our experiences at the local Empower Comic Con, and our first TTV Book Club Review of the year with Doctor Who: The Legends of Ashildr (Doctor Who E-Books) by Justin Richards, James Goss, David Llewellyn, and Jenny Colgan.

FNW 2/26 is “The Girl In The Fireplace”.

TTV #270 is our review of the Lethbridge-Stewart short The Dogs Of War, our “Spoiler filled” Book Review: Lethbridge-Stewart: Mutually Assured Domination by Nick Walters, and a catch up of Titan Comics catch-up: 10th Doctor #11-15.

We’ll be watching the fifth Doctor Peter Davidson story “Frontios” on 3/4 for Friday Night Who.

and TTV #271 will have our review and discussion of “Frontios”.

FNW 3/11 is “The Hand Of Fear”.

Which should set us up nicely in TTV #272 for the TTV Book Club Review The Drosten’s Curse by A.L. Kennedy.

Friday Night Who on 3/18 once again, is “Day Of The Doctor”.

Which set us up nicely for TTV #273, our Beyond The Doctor: John Hurt. We’ll be watching 1984.

FNW 3/25 is “Terror Of The Vervoids”.

TTV #274 is Big Finish #68 Catch-1782, and more Titan Comics 12th Doctor #11-15.

Beyond that? More Beyond the Doctors, more book reviews, more Big Finish, and more being awesome. What more could you want?

Schedule updates… already

Already a schedule update, but only so we can cram MORE fun.

This week’s Friday Night Who (1/8) concludes “The Chase” with parts 4-6.

And then we’ve expanded TTV #263 into a full blown Adversary Archive: The Mechanoids! We’ll review “The Chase”, (Goodbye, Ian and Barbara) cover some early Who comics with the stories The World That Waits (Comic – The Dalek World Annual), The Eye Of War & Impass (Comic – The Dalek Chronicles), and the short story Birth Of A Legend by Justin Richards (Doctor Who Files: The Cult Of Skaro).

The rest of the schedule is as is…

Schedule Resolutions We Intend To Keep (…but may not)

  • UPDATE 1/4/16:

As we wind down 2015 and turn our eyes firmly forward to 2016, we present the upcoming schedule:

Friday Night Who on 1/1 is the swan song episode for Ian & Barbara. We’ll break “The Chase” into two weeks, parts 1-3 of the Hartnell episode are first

TTV #262 sees a return to Big Finish with mainline story #65 “The Juggernauts”, and we’ll offer up our opinions on the Titan Comics 9th Doctor mini-series event (issues #1-5)

FNW 1/8 concludes “The Chase” with parts 4-6.

  • And then we’ve expanded TTV #263 into a full blown Adversary Archive: The Mechanoids!

Sylvester McCoy returns to FNW on 1/15 in “Delta And The Bannermen”.

TTV #264 sees the return of last year’s “Beyond The Doctor” feature. For Sylvester McCoy we’ll be discussing his turn in the 1979 Dracula staring Frank Langella.

We had a request for some “funky Pertwee”, so FNW 1/22 is “Claws Of Axos”.

Since we’ve already tackled that story, it frees up TTV #265 for some Candy Jar Books fun. We’ll talk the Lethbridge-Stewart Short The Cult Of The Grinning Man, have our “Spoiler filled” Book Review of Lethbridge-Stewart: Beast Of Fang Rock by Andy Frankham-Allen, and catch up with the 10th Doctor in Titan Comics #11-15 and we may have a special treat with a special guest on the show this week.

FNW 1/29 – is the animated “Scream Of The Shalka”.

TTV #266 starts season 2 of Big Finish 8th Doctor Adventures: #1 Dead London, #2 Max Warp

Been a while for one of our favs, FNW 2/5 is “Doctor Who: The Movie”.

TTV #267 sees us go “Beyond The Doctor” with 8th Doctor Paul McGann… AND 9th Doctor (Alternate) Richard E. Grant in Withnail & I.

This one could be a bit of a bother. We are launching a new series of discussions on Lost episodes, and starting with William Hartnell’s “The Crusade”. Obviously, with missing episodes, there will be some logistical challenges for Friday Night Who on 2/12, but we’re confident we can square that away. Or at the very least muddle through.

TTV #268 is the first in our “Lost In Time” discussions over “The Crusade”, the Reconstruction and Novelization.

After that? Well Gally looms for those who can go. Not sure on our end yet, but we are ever hopeful. And of course we’ll have our Book review over January’s Goodreads title, and a few other surprises…

Stay tuned, true believers! And thanks for all your support!

The Schedule Awakens

Playing hunches abounds in our Friday Night Who choices to finish out this season, so without further ado, here’s what we have on tap for those of you that like to follow along at home…

Friday Night Who on 11/27 is the 5th Doctor Peter Davidson starring “Arc Of Infinity.”

Our show for episode #257 will have our thoughts and reviews of “Heaven Sent.”

FNW on 12/4 is David Tennant’s 10th Doctor in “End Of Time” and “End Of Time, Part 2”.

TTV #258 sees us finish out series 9 with “Hell Bent.”

Friday Night Who goes back to old school on 12/11 with the 2nd Doctor Patrick Troughton in “The War Games”,  Parts 1-5.

And just in time to finish up your christmas shopping, our third Fun & Games episode will take a look at Doctor Who Trivial Pursuit, and Lego Dimensions: The Dalek Extermination Of Earth in TTV #259.

FNW 12/18 finishes “The War Games” with Parts 6-10.

More book reviews in TTV #260, including the Lethbridge-Stewart short stories: Ambush, Legacies, and One Cold Step, and our “Spoiler filled” Book Review of Lethbridge-Stewart: The Schizoid Earth by David McIntee.

Returning to where it all started all those years ago, Friday Night Who on 12/25 is Matt Smith’s 11th Doctor in “A Christmas Carol.”

And our last episode of the year will have our thoughts on the (as of this writing) still unnamed 2015 Christmas Special in TTV #261.

Next year, we’ll start back up with our series of looking Beyond The Doctor, more Big Finish Audio adventures, more Comic and Book Reviews, and we’ll start looking into the lost episodes through reckons. And of course we still have many episodes left to review. Thanks again to all our loyal regulars for sticking with us, and thanks to all our non-regulars who stop in from time to time to check in with us. And if you’ve just discovered our cast, thank you as well!

The Schedule That Changed… And Lived

So here we are, five episodes into Series 8. I guess you could say we’re “In The Thick Of It”.

SEE WHAT I DID THERE?!? HA!

An update to the schedule follows:

Friday Night Who on 10/23 is Tom Baker in “The Face Of Evil”.

Which hopefully pairs up well with our topic for TTV #252, “The Woman Who Lived” but we’ll also share our thoughts in a SPOILER FREE REVIEW of the newest (and just released) Candy Jar Books publication, Lethbridge-Stewart: Beast Of Fang Rock by Andy Frankham-Allen. And thanks to the author and publisher, we’ll have a couple of copes to GIVE AWAY to our listeners on the show!!! Thanks so much to them for this opportunity, and if you’d like to win one, BE SURE TO LISTEN!

FNW 10/30 – While we originally planned to do “Day Of The Doctor” (again) we decided to have a little Halloween since it’s this weekend. So instead, Tune in for “Blink” and “Listen” respectively.

TTV #253 will be our review of “The Zygon Invasion”.

And what’s a Zygon invasion without their first appearance? Join us on 11/6 for “Terror Of The Zygons” for Friday Night Who just before

TTV #254 – “The Zygon Inversion”.

Here’s where it gets tricky. FNW 11/13 is “Love & Monsters” to tie in to the unique filming nature of a Doctor light episode…

Which should compliment our topic in Traveling The Vortex episode #255, “Sleep No More”.

FNW 11/20 is another new series affair, last season’s “Flatline”.

Because Rigsy makes a return appearance in “Face The Raven”, the topic of TTV #256.

Beyond that? Well, I’m still hedging my bets on the finale. I have a few ideas, but I’d hate to spoil anyone. We’ll keep you posted!

The Magician’s Schedule

Okay, a few bumps in the road later, here is the official Traveling The Vortex schedule for Series 9 (well, most of it)

I played a hunch and it paid off, with the return of Davros in the first episode of the series, it seems only fitting to revisit his last appearance in Doctor Who, so Friday Night Who on 9/25 is the David Tennant two-parter,  “Stolen Earth” / “Journey’s End”.

Our show this week is a full one! TTV #248 will have new from our appearance at Slash And Bash, reviews of the (finally released) Titan Comics: The Four Doctors #5, thanks to Candy Jar Books we’ll bring you a spoiler free review of just released Lethbridge Stewart: The Schizoid Earth by David A. McIntee, and then a very spoiler filled review of Series 9, episode 2 “The Witch’s Familiar”.

The next weekend finds us celebrating in Wichita for Time Eddy, and since both Frazer Hines and Deborah Watling will be on hand, what better Friday Night Who could there be on 10/2 than “Tomb Of The Cybermen”?

TTV #249 will be all about Time Eddy, and our discussing of this week’s new story, “Under The Lake”.

FNW 10/9 is “Warriors Of The Deep” with Peter Davison. (Which probably would have fit better with last week’s story, but we wanted a refresher on some of Deborah’s material.)

TTV #250 Wait… an epiversary?!? In the middle of Series 9?!? ARGH! Well, in addition to our discussion of “Before The Flood” we’ll find some other fun things to discuss too.

Like New Who? Good. Cause David Tennant returns to FNW on 10/16 in “The Fires Of Pompeii”…

…because the new series synopsis hints that in “The Girl Who Died” the Doctor will remember where he’s seen his face. We’ll discuss in TTV #251.

Friday Night Who on 10/23 is Tom Baker in “The Face Of Evil”.

Which hopefully pairs up well with our topic for TTV #252, “The Woman Who Lived”.

FNW 10/30 – “Day Of The Doctor” (yes, again!) should nicely set up

TTV #253 – “The Zygon Invasion”.

Traveling The Vortex “Spy” Ad

A little something I whipped up for the convention circuit…

Be sure to join us on the Fall convention circuit. We are at  TopCon, Sept. 18 – 20, Slash & Bash, Sept. 25 & 26, and Time Eddy, Oct. 2 – 4 (in Wichita). If you are going to any of these cons, and you see us, say hi!

Enjoy!

Schedule: Impossible

Good morning, Mr. Phelps. As promised, here’s the schedule leading up to the start of Series 9. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to use this road map to follow along at home.

Friday Night Who is our weekly watch along. We do a different episode every Friday night at midnight and tweet along to the fun, using the hashtag #FridayNightWho. On 8/14, join us for the re-appearance of Donna in the 10th Doctor episode, “Partners In Crime”.

Our podcast episode #242 will cover the exciting events on Titan Doctor Who Comics Day! We’ll also cover the next few issues of the 10th (#10), 11th (#12-15) and 12th Doctor (#6-10) arcs to get caught up… as well as the first issue of the Paul Cornell scripted “Four Doctors” which releases THIS WEEK!

William Hartnell makes a return appearance to Friday Night Who on 8/21 in “The Aztecs”.

Since we’ve already reviewed that one, TTV #243 takes us back to Big Finish, with the sixth Doctor and Evelyn audios #60 “Medicinal Purposes” and #78 “Pier Pressure”.

FNW on 8/28 begins the end of Jon Pertwee with “Planet Of The Spiders”. This is another one that is currently unavailable on DVD, so some of you may have difficulty finding it. Our apologies, though it does appear to be available on DailyMotion and Hulu. Because it’s a long (six parter) we’re only doing the first three this night.

TTV #244 brings more Big Finish (we’re knocking a few of them out since we will have a long spell during series 9 where we AREN’T reviewing audio stories.) This time out is the fifth Doctor and Turlough in #76 “Singularity”, then picking up the next Peri and Erimim adventure in #71 “The Council Of Nicaea”.

FNW 9/4 finishes off “Planet Of The Spiders” with parts 4-6.

TTV #245 will have our review of “Planet Of The Spiders”.

FNW 9/11 we’ll do the finale of series 8, “Dark Water” / “Death In Heaven”.

And TTV #246 will have our final round of Big Finish for a while closes out the first season of the 8th Doctor Adventures: #7 & #8 “Human Resources Part 1 & 2”

Friday Night Who will happen at a special time on 9/18 as we do “The Rescue” with William Hartnell, coming to you live from Topeka’s Geek Expo, TOPCON! We’ll let you in on more details as we get them with our schedule for the con. Alas, this is another one currently in the video vault, but again available on DailyMotion and Hulu.

and rounding out things with episode #247, we’ll cover the fun of TopCon and have our thoughts on the first episode of series 9, “The Magician’s Apprentice”!

Beyond that? Well if you or any of your team are captured or killed, we will disavow all knowledge of these proceedings. Good luck. This schedule will self destruct in 5 seconds…
