Side Trip 23 – TopCon: An Interview with Spencer Wilding

ttv_logo_newWe’re off again this week, this time for con stuff, this time spending the weekend at Topeka’s TopCon Geek Expo. We had a wonderful time at the convention and thought we’d relay some of our journey over the 3 days of the con. Plus, we had a chance to sit down, not once, but twice with Spencer Wilding who acted in three Doctor Who stories during the Matt Smith era of the show. Included in this Side Trip is one of those interviews where he shared with us some stories of his time on the show.

Plus, some added news from Candy Jar Books announcing the start to the next series of Lethbridge-Stewart novels.

Enjoy!

Episode 278 – English History 101

ttv_logo_newWe take a side step away from Doctor Who again this week for another ‘Beyond the Doctor’. This time we examine Ninth Doctor actor, Christopher Eccleston in the role of the Duke of Norfolk in the 1998 film, Elizabeth, also starring Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush. We give our impressions of the film as well as rate Eccleston’s performance.

Plus, we talk about the new companion announcement that dropped over the weekend. Also, some convention news from here at home.

And, feedback returns this week.

Enjoy!

Episode 247 – The Confessional Podcast

TTV LOGO FB 2It’s finally arrived. No, we’re not referring to this week’s show, which I’m sure you have been eagerly awaiting. Series 9 premiered this weekend, and we finally get a chance to review the first in a two-part story, The Magician’s Apprentice. We give our impressions of the first episode out of the gate for 2015.

Also, we are fresh back from this year’s TOPCON, and will discuss our involvement and the convention on the whole.

Plus, some news of the week, including our reactions to the announcement that Jenna Coleman will soon be leaving Doctor Who.

And, of course, your feedback.

Side Trip 16 – LIVE from TOPCON!

ttv_logo_newA special side episode ahead of this week’s regularly scheduled podcast. We were privileged to be guests once again this year at the 2nd annual TOPCON – “Topeka’s Original Comic and Game Expo” that happened this weekend at the Ramada Inn Downtown in Topeka, KS. On Saturday we hosted our first LIVE broadcast that streamed online through our website. If you were unable to attend our panel or listen in live on the internet, well, here is your chance to hear the live recording.

We were joined by Eric Collins (know as Dalek Dad), the creator of Red Dalek, who too, was a guest at this year’s convention. He shares with us the concept and construction of what has become a popular convention visitor and guest.

Enjoy!

Episode 241 – Bats in the Belfry

TTV LOGO NEWIn this week’s episode we take a little break from reviews to discuss Shaun and Keith’s trips to Kansas City Comic Con which in its first year featured none other than the Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker. Both recount their visits to KC and experiences at the con.

Also, lots of other convention announcements to get to, including LI Who, Chicago TARDIS, Gallifrey One, and our local convention, TopCon.

Schedule: Impossible

Good morning, Mr. Phelps. As promised, here’s the schedule leading up to the start of Series 9. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to use this road map to follow along at home.

Friday Night Who is our weekly watch along. We do a different episode every Friday night at midnight and tweet along to the fun, using the hashtag #FridayNightWho. On 8/14, join us for the re-appearance of Donna in the 10th Doctor episode, “Partners In Crime”.

Our podcast episode #242 will cover the exciting events on Titan Doctor Who Comics Day! We’ll also cover the next few issues of the 10th (#10), 11th (#12-15) and 12th Doctor (#6-10) arcs to get caught up… as well as the first issue of the Paul Cornell scripted “Four Doctors” which releases THIS WEEK!

William Hartnell makes a return appearance to Friday Night Who on 8/21 in “The Aztecs”.

Since we’ve already reviewed that one, TTV #243 takes us back to Big Finish, with the sixth Doctor and Evelyn audios #60 “Medicinal Purposes” and #78 “Pier Pressure”.

FNW on 8/28 begins the end of Jon Pertwee with “Planet Of The Spiders”. This is another one that is currently unavailable on DVD, so some of you may have difficulty finding it. Our apologies, though it does appear to be available on DailyMotion and Hulu. Because it’s a long (six parter) we’re only doing the first three this night.

TTV #244 brings more Big Finish (we’re knocking a few of them out since we will have a long spell during series 9 where we AREN’T reviewing audio stories.) This time out is the fifth Doctor and Turlough in #76 “Singularity”, then picking up the next Peri and Erimim adventure in #71 “The Council Of Nicaea”.

FNW 9/4 finishes off “Planet Of The Spiders” with parts 4-6.

TTV #245 will have our review of “Planet Of The Spiders”.

FNW 9/11 we’ll do the finale of series 8, “Dark Water” / “Death In Heaven”.

And TTV #246 will have our final round of Big Finish for a while closes out the first season of the 8th Doctor Adventures: #7 & #8 “Human Resources Part 1 & 2”

Friday Night Who will happen at a special time on 9/18 as we do “The Rescue” with William Hartnell, coming to you live from Topeka’s Geek Expo, TOPCON! We’ll let you in on more details as we get them with our schedule for the con. Alas, this is another one currently in the video vault, but again available on DailyMotion and Hulu.

and rounding out things with episode #247, we’ll cover the fun of TopCon and have our thoughts on the first episode of series 9, “The Magician’s Apprentice”!

Beyond that? Well if you or any of your team are captured or killed, we will disavow all knowledge of these proceedings. Good luck. This schedule will self destruct in 5 seconds…

Convention Season 2015

You’ve heard us mention our upcoming Con-Season quite a bit on the show, and while none of these shows will be as grand as Planet Comicon, we thought we’d let you all in on our upcoming appearances…1432662010181

Other

Again in Topeka, we are still negotiating our appearance at the Slash And Bash Sci-Fi and Horror Film Festival September 25 & 26, Wizard World Tulsa is in Oklahoma October 23-25, and there’s an outside chance Mel and Shaun will sneak down for a day in an unofficial capacity one of those days, And of course, Chicago Tardis lines up November 27-29, which is once again a goal for the boys, but not set in stone yet. We’ll keep you posted as these cons approach.
