Delayed… due to illness and work constraints

Delayed_in_the_VortexWell, alas the flu bug has caught up with two of us. And since Keith is working the graveyard shift to make up for holiday vacationers, we are having to postpone this week’s podcast a bit.

We haven’t missed a week yet, and don’t plan to this time, however, the show will be later than ever this week. In fact, Episode 209, will now be the first episode of the new year. We hope to be well enough (and back on schedule) to record our show on New Year’s Day. That means the show will not hit the feeds until, Friday, the following day.

But, don’t worry. We will make the quick turn-around and bring you the following episode, right on time on the Monday after that. So look at it this way: you will get two wonderful shows in the span of FOUR DAYS!

So, bear with us as we get healthy and back to our normal routines.

Thanks!

Side Trip 15 – A Visit from St. Nick

TTV-Logo-1400-150x150Surprise and Merry Christmas! We thought we’d do a little something special for our listeners this year and release our own Christmas special. In this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special, the Twelfth Doctor will be visited by Santa Claus. So, we decided to compile our review of four stories where the Doctor has encountered the ‘right jolly ol’ elf” in previous adventures.

First, a look at the December 1965 TV Comic story featuring the First Doctor called simply, A Christmas Story.

Then, we review the short story adventure, The Man Who (Nearly) Killed Christmas, featuring the Second Doctor.

Next, the Third Doctor decides to give Sarah Jane Smith a Christmas treat by introducing her to Kris Kringle in the short story, A Visit from Saint Nicholas.

And finally, the Eleventh Doctor rescues Santa and Christmas itself in the IDW comic, Silent Knight.

We hope you enjoy this special Christmas goody to bring you more holiday cheer.

Merry Christmas!

Episode 208 – Short and Sweet

TTV-Logo-1400-150x150In this week’s podcast, we pick up and catch up on the final four 50th anniversary ebook short stories, The Beast of Babylon, The Mystery of the Haunted Cottage, Nothing O’Clock and Lights Out. Hear what we liked and disliked about this wrap-up of the line.

Also, big news (especially for us) in convention guest news. We’ll share some of the big announcements over the past week!

Plus, more news of the week.

And, of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!

2015 Scheduling

As promised, heres a look at the finalized schedule going into the new year!

Our last Friday Night Who tweet along for 2014 is on 12/26, the Christmas Story “The Next Doctor” with David Tennant.

And our last show review for the year will be all about the newest Christmas Special, “Last Christmas” with Peter Capaldi.

HAPPY 2015!

We’re a little late to celebrate the year of the snake, but then again, time has always been a little Wibbly Wobbly round here. So our first Friday Night Who of the new year on 1/2 is the fifth Doctor story, “Kinda”.

We review a pair of fifth Doctor audio stories in TTV #210, Big Finish #44 “Creatures Of Beauty”, and #66 “The Game”.

Then on 1/9 we present the second Mara story for FNW, “Snakedance”.

TTV #211 is an Adversary Archive on The Mara, and we’ll tackle both stories “Kinda” and “Snakedance”.

FNW 1/16 is Matt Smith in “Victory Of The Daleks”

And a quick turnaround for more Paul McGann audio in TTV #212, as we listen and start the Big Finish 8th Doctor Adventures #1, “Blood Of The Daleks” and #2 “Blood Of The Daleks Part 2”.

FNW 1/23 is one we’ve been trying to get to for a while, William Hartnell in “The Sensorites” Part 1-3.

Here we change it up a bit. Remember two years ago when we did a specific Doctor breakdown for our the run up to the 50th anniversary? And last year we did the E-Books each month to continue that celebration? Well we’re doing it again this year, with a twist! TTV #213 is something we’re calling Beyond The Doctor: William Hartnell. Instead of reviewing an episode, we’ll be discussing his role in the motion picture Carry On Sergeant! We hope to do a different staring roll for each Doctor each month all year long!

We’ll finish “The Sensorites” Part 4-6 on 1/30 for Friday Night Who.

and then TTV #214 has our reviews of “The Sensorites” as well as Big Finish #85 “Red”.

After that? Well it’s the start of Con season for us, with Gallifrey One and Kansas City Planet Comicion looming on the horizon, but we’ll have something hammered out for you all by then! As always thanks for listening and following along, and we’ll see you in the vortex…

Episode 207 – The Podcast That Never Was

TTV-Logo-1400-150x150In this week’s podcast, we’ve reached the end of the run of Charlotte Pollard, well.. in the Eighth Doctors run in the Big Finish Main Range, anyway. And so we bid a fond farewell to her in he present state with a review of the audio play The Girl Who Never Was. We’ll give our impressions of this bang-up job of a story (did I tip our hand there?).

Also, we continue out review of the Titan Comics Doctor Who titles, exploring some more of the Tenth and Eleventh Doctor series.

Plus, nome news of the week, including a very special con announcement of a guest coming very near to us.

And, of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!

Marvel With Friends

We’ve done Flicks with Friends here at Traveling the Vortex, and Brittany over at the Five(ish) Fangirls Podcast hosted Disney With Friends…so we decided to team up for a tweet along  build up to Avengers: Age of Ultron!

MARVEL_WITH_FRIENDS_SATURDAYS

Join us in this Friday Night Who like festivity where everyone Saturday we tweet along to a Marvel Cinematic Universe Movie. We will press play at 9 PM CST and use the Hashtag #MarvelWithFriends and whichever movie we are watching.

And for personal reference, listed is where Agents of SHIELD falls in the timeline, but we won’t be tweeting along to those.

Thanks again to the Five(ish) Fangirls for helping us organize this and to Rachel and Brittany in particular who spearheaded the effort.

Episode 206 – The Quicker the Fix, the Faster It Breaks

TTV-Logo-1400-150x150In this week’s show we tackle two more Big Finish audios each featuring The Fifth Doctor, Peri and Erimem. First, we review the audio play, Nekromanteia. Then, we’ll we will share our opinions on the following adventure, The Axis of Insanity.

Also, we get a special treat from Traveling the Vortex correspondent, Time Lord Ben. He is fresh back from Chicago TARDIS with a full report of the three day event.

Plus, more convention news and announcements, as well as some of the rumblings in the Doctor Who world of news.

And, of course, your feedback.

Episode 205 – Everybody Play the Game

TTV-Logo-1400-150x150It’s time for Fun and Games Part 2! In this week’s show (yes, a day late we know) we discuss some of the fun we had reviewing two Doctor Who licensed table top games.  First, we look at the Doctor Who version of Yahtzee. Then we go over the Dalek themed board game, Risk. Find out what we thought of a new spin on these classics.

BUT, before all of that, we also get to our reviews of the Big Finish Seventh Doctor and Mel audio play, Flip-Flop.

And then, more fun in the works with a review of the first issue of the Titan Twelfth Doctor comic book series.

Also, we have some news to give our reactions to.

And, of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!
