Convention Season 2015

You’ve heard us mention our upcoming Con-Season quite a bit on the show, and while none of these shows will be as grand as Planet Comicon, we thought we’d let you all in on our upcoming appearances…1432662010181

July

Our friend Moose is putting on Second Britishfest in Omaha, Nebraska / Council Bluffs, Iowa on July 10-12 and Keith and Shaun will be there representing Traveling The Vortex on Saturday & Sunday. Not only can you come see us, but friend of the show Simon Fisher-Becker (Dorium Moldavar), a full blown 4th Doctor Tardis console, Patrick Troughton look-a-like and 2nd Doctor impersonator Bill Breuer, The Timey Wimey Puppet Show, a whole heap of Daleks, and of course, all things British.  More details available at his website: www.britishfest.com

August

kccc_sticker-page-001.jpgKansas City Comic Con is August 7-9 at Bartle Hall and features the 6th Doctor, Colin Baker among other distinguished guests. Mel and Shaun are for sure are going down on Sunday, but there is no official Vortex presence at this con this year. So if you see us, give a shout! http://www.kansascity-comiccon.com

Also in Kansas City on Aug 21-23 is Crypticon, featuring our [cough] favorite Master Eric Roberts [cough] from Doctor Who: The Movie. Again, no official presence here since this is primarily a horror con, but Mel and Shaun are going up (for Lance Heinrickson!) http://www.crypticonkansascity.com

Our home grown convention Top Con is here in Topeka, Kansas on September 18-20, and Traveling The Vortex will be present and fully staffed all three days! http://www.topcon.us

October

Time_Eddy_with_stars_3_1Time Eddy is shaping up to be the biggest Doctor Who con in the midwest. It lands in Wichita October 2-4 for it’s first year with a killer line up of guests including actors Colin Baker (6th Doctor), Nicola Bryant (Peri), Katy Manning (Jo Grant), Ellis George (Courtney), Peter Purves (Steven), Deborah Watling (Victoria), Daphne Ashbrook (Grace), and not one but two script editors, Victor Pemberton and Andrew Cartmel. In addition toPatrick Troughton look-a-like and 2nd Doctor impersonator Bill Breuer, we’ll be there all three days as guests and panelists. http://www.kansasdoctorwho.com

Other

Again in Topeka, we are still negotiating our appearance at the Slash And Bash Sci-Fi and Horror Film Festival September 25 & 26, Wizard World Tulsa is in Oklahoma October 23-25, and there’s an outside chance Mel and Shaun will sneak down for a day in an unofficial capacity one of those days, And of course, Chicago Tardis lines up November 27-29, which is once again a goal for the boys, but not set in stone yet. We’ll keep you posted as these cons approach.

Hope to see you at one of these events!

Ace Of Scheduling

Like sands through the hourglass… No, not going there.

First up, a change in our programing. Originally we were going to do “The Aztecs” for Friday Night Who on 6/26, but that has changed to “The Web Of Fear” (Parts 1-3). More details forthcoming…

TTV #235 is our reviews of two more Paul McGann Big Finish 8th Doctor Adventures, #5 “Phobos” and #6 “No More Lies”.

FNW on 7/3 is the second half of “The Web Of Fear” (Parts 4-6).

And now the reason for the change. To help integrate and interact a bit with our Traveling The Vortex Book Club over on Goodreads, we’re actually going to use episode #236 to review the book selection from the month of June!  Lethbridge Stewart: The Forgotten Son by Andy Frankham-Allen.

FNW 7/10 is Matt Smith in “A Good Man Goes To War”.

TTV #237 will be all about our misadventures in Omaha for this year’s British Fest 2015 (featuring friend of the show Simon Fisher-Becker!

Finally, a plan that has been in the works from almost the inception of this podcast! Friday Night Who on 7/17 is “Ghost Light” (Our apologies in advance, as we know this one is NOT readily available to most folk since the DVD is out of print.)

FNW 7/24 is “The Curse Of Fenric” (and much easier to get ahold of via Netflix, although this one too is out of print on DVD.)

Traveling The Vortex #239 has our review of “The Curse Of Fenric”, and Big Finish #58 “Harvest”.

* CORRECTION Originally this read Big Finish #67 “Dreamtime”. Shaun skipped ahead, and it wasn’t until just now that Keith caught it. The actual review will be over #58 “Harvest”. Sorry for the confusion and late notice!

We’ll finish out July on 7/31 with “Survival” for Friday Night Who.

And then the culmination! TTV #240 is a Companion Archive – Dorothy Gale McShane and The Ace Trilogy: “Ghost Light”, “The Curse Of Fenric”, “Survival”.

Ol’ Sixie graces FNW on 8/7 in “Attack Of The Cybermen”.

And graces our podcast #241, wherein we’ll discuss Kansas City ComicCon (KCCC) featuring… you guessed it, Colin Baker!

Jump back to New Who for Friday Night Who on 8/14 with “Partners In Crime”.

And then a special TTV #242 to celebrate Titan Doctor Who Comics Day!

Beyond that? Well, the word on the street is that a certain Time Lord will be gracing our television screens again in some all new adventures for season 9… Easter Saturday can’t come soon enough!
