80’s Convention Pictures

As mentioned in Darryl’s feedback in Episode 166 he was lucky enough to have some pictures from some Conventions in the 80’s. He said:

“I just wanted to say that I have been a long time fan of Who, and while in high school I went to Doctor Who conventions in St. Louis during the 80’s. One was Hitchhiking to Gallifrey with Peter Davison, Mark Wing-Davy (Zaphod) and Sandra Dickinson (Trillian) who was still married to Peter at that time. (actually it was around this time that she gave birth to Georia Moffett -Davisons real last name) who went on to be the Doctors Daughter and wife (Tennant)…..so timey-wimey!

I also went to many Tardiscons in the mid 80’s. I had the pleasure of meeting, getting pictures with, and autographs from the likes of Tom Baker, Patrick Troughton (who came at the last minute after Jon Petwee dropped out), Peter Davison, Frasier Hines, Nicolas Courtney, Katy Manning, Terrance Dicks, Nicola Bryant, Mark Strickson, Ian Marter, Sarah Sutton, Janet Fielding and others. I have tons of pictures and even a bunch of cassete tapes full of panel audios. There were skits put on by the actors, dinners with them, caberets and many other cool events. But I never had to pay for one picture or autograph! When did this happen. It kind of saddens me that it has come to this. Usually the weekend price of admission included all of that. I guess this is the world we live in now. Money, commercialism and greed. (Boy I sound like an old fogey). At least Gallifrey keeps the limit of attendees, to keep it somewhat cozy. Anyway, I had a blast every time.

My two regrets are, one: I have not been to a con since the mid 80’s and two: I had a Five Doctors script in which I had the actors sign. It has at least 15 signatures on it. The one!! time I forgot to bring it to a con was the one in which Terrance Dicks was at!! THE WRITER!! That is a major epic fail. Maybe one day!!”

He was able to scan some of the pictures he took during those times…You can find them below!

Gallifrey One Announces Membership Cap

Gally has always been first and foremost a fan convention.  Having attended last year’s record breaking festival, I knew changes were on the horizon. Just announced for The 24 Hours Of Gallifrey One, next year’s 50th anniversary Convention, they will cap membership and attendees at 3200 people due to simple space restrictions.

If you’re at all interested, get your tickets now.  More details found on their news page.
