Be sure to check back soon, because upon editing this one for the feed, the 5th update came in as well. It will be posted soon!
Two updates on the same day? Unheard of! Yes, that’s right, Shaun has recorded another update from Gallifrey One’s Network 23, going on right now in Los Angeles, California. And joining him in this one, is his companion and girlfriend, Mel.
Shaun and Mel recount more of their “official” Day 1 at the premier Doctor Who convention in North America.
And this time, we get to hear a special message from one of the convention guests.
Also, more on the Eighth Doctor’s console which is on display, an a meeting with Eight himself, Mr. Paul McGann.
Shaun is going to be talking about this for weeks I’m sure.
As many of you know, Shaun is in California this weekend for Gallifrey One’s – Network 23 Doctor Who Convention. He has promised to keep out listeners updated on the con. This is the first of hopefully, many audio updates we will be bringing you throughout the weekend.
And be sure to check out Shaun’s blog updates from Gally, also posted here on this feed.
Keith and I are extremely jealous right now by the way.
In this week’s episode we take a look back at the Russell T. Davies era and the triumphant return of Doctor Who to the television airwaves. His highest and lowest moments, the good and the bad of RTD’s time as show runner.
Also, a look at the week’s news stories, and of course your feedback. Oh, and be sure to pay extra special attention to a very momentous announcement about one of our hosts.
Oh, and we didn’t really mention her on this weeks show, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t give any credit Julie Gardner’s help in bringing Doctor Who back to T.V. and it’s success throughout the RTD era. Be sure to check out this tribute to Russell and Julie sung by none other than David Tennant, John Barrowman And Catherine Tate. “The Ballad of Russell and Julie”
In this weeks episode we take a look at The Last Great Time War. We give our interpretation of the event that may have lead to and involved in the event of the war. We also speculate on many of the events surrounding The Moment that The Doctor uses to bring the battle to its conclusion and some of the repercussions and fallout from the war.
Also a look at some of the news from the week surrounding Doctor who.
And of course, your feedback. Enjoy!

We have reached a milestone in out more than a year worth of reviews here on Traveling the Vortex, Keith has finally seen all of the new series to date.
In this week’s show we tackle the epic two-parter The End of Time. Find out our impressions of the last outing of David Tennant. We take a different approach and present our views right along side yours as we read out your thoughts on the story.
Also, our reaction to this week’s news items in the Whoniverse.
In this week’s show we make the trip way back for an Adversary Archive on the Ice Warriors starting with the Second Doctor’s first encounter in the appropriately titled The Ice Warriors. Then another outing with the Second Doctor as the Ice Warriors return in The Seeds of Death.
Next, we turn our attention to two Third Doctor stories, The Curse of Peladon, and it’s sequel, The Monster of Peladon. And then Glenn reviews a medium that has not been looked at until now on Traveling the Vortex, as the Tenth Doctor and Donna meet the Ice Warriors in the IDW comic book, Cold Blooded War.
Of course we chime in on the latest news and rumors, and listen to your feedback. Enjoy!
In this week’s episode we start our look at the gap year specials, including the computer animated CBBC outing, Dreamland. Then on to the proper specials starting with The Next Doctor.
Also, our impressions on Music of the Spheres, the mini-episode that premièred at the Royal Albert Hall in London before the Intermission of the Doctor Who Prom on 27 July 2008.
And we play catch up on the wedding news of David Tennant to his fiancé Georgia Moffat (yes, Shaun did forget some big news).
And of course, your feedback. Enjoy!
P.S. As per our debate at the end of the episode, on if the “Attack of the Graske” has ever been released, it hasn’t. From TARDIS.wikia:
“Although the interactive nature of the story would be compatible with DVD/Blu-Ray controllers, as of 2011 no home video release of Attack of the Graske has occurred or been announced. This renders it one of only two David Tennant-era Doctor Who-related productions (the other being the non-canonical Tonight’s the Night skit) that has not, and likely will not, see official home video release.”
As promised in Episode 53, here is Dr. Phil’s Big Finish Audio Companion. It’s a guide to some of the best Doctor Who audio plays that Big Finish has produced in the last decade.
This is a piece that we had hoped to include in our first review of Big Audio episodes, but as Phil told us, the project “ballooned” as he began editing it and putting in the trailers to the referenced stories. We felt that it was too long to include in this week’s episode in it’s entirety, but agreed that it was too good to edit down. So, it debuts as our second Short Trip.
Here we are, a day later, but all of us feeling much better.
In this week’s episode, we start the New Year of right with a very Big Finish. We review the Eighth Doctor’s first three audios, Storm Warning, The Sword of Orion, and The Stones of Venice.
Also in this show, at this years Chicago TARDIS Dr. Phil Serna had the chance to sit down with writer Richard Dinnick, who has written for both Big Finish and BBC books. We’ll hear Richard talk about some his work.
And of course, this week’s news and your feedback. Enjoy!
ADDENDUM: The “Big News” that Shaun couldn’t remember during the podcast was the wedding of tenth Doctor David Tennant to his fiancé Georgia Moffat, (“The Doctor’s Daughter”) who happens to be the daughter of fifth Doctor Peter Davison. (Any excuse to bring up that tangle of relationships again!) Traveling The Vortex passes on our congratulations to the happy couple!

We’ve been waiting a few months now and Sunday finally brought us a terrific Christmas present – NEW DOCTOR WHO!
In this weeks episode we review The Doctor, The Widow, and the Wardrobe. *In keeping with Vortex policies, anything that has officially aired is fair game for review, BUT for those of you who live in areas where it hasn’t aired yet, SPOILER ALERT! And we have a special guest in studio this week. A regular listener (and my cousin) Jon Boy joins us for this week;s show.
We also talk about our initial impressions of the Doctor Who: Worlds in Time open preview. And of course, your feedback. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas holiday!
Welcome to our first Side Trip, and this one is our (soon to be annual) Christmas party!
As our gift to you, we thought we would give you a special episode. It’s full of special holiday greetings from our friends, and a special commentary that you can listen to while watching last year’s Doctor Who Christmas special, A Christmas Carol.
This week, we finish up Series Four with the fan extravaganza that is The Stolen Earth, and Journey’s End. We bid a sad goodbye to Donna’s time with the Doctor.
Also, we discuss the news about the departure of Amy and Rory.
