Oh, What A Schedule. What A Lovely Schedule!

Once again sneaking this onto the feeds just before the wire. My apologies. Without further ado…

Our show this week will be covering the world of Titan Comics, we’ll take a look at the next batch of issues released since our last review, for Doctors 10, 11, and 12, as well as check into the just started 9th Doctor line, and the Free Comic Book day multi-story issue. What? You didn’t get one of the free comic book day issues? Well fret not, we have a few extra to give away on the show this week!

Friday Night Who on 5/15 is “The Deadly Assassin” with Tom Baker.

* Our show next week (TTV #229) takes us back to the Big Finish 4th Doctor Adventures, with #5 and 6: “Trail Of The White Worm” and “The Oseidon Adventure”.

*EDIT – Filing this under the “this is why we can’t have nice things” category, I have corrected the titles of these Big Finish stories to read correctly, NOT as they were Trail Of The White Worm 1 & 2. Not sure what I was thinking or reading, my apologies for the confusion – Shaun

FNW on 5/22 is “The Visitation”.

Since we’ve already reviewed this week’s Friday Night Who selection, TTV #230 will be all about Peter Davison as we go Beyond The Doctor, and take a look at his performance in some episodes of All Creatures Great And Small.

FNW 5/29 is “The Happiness Patrol” with Sylvester McCoy.

TTV #231 is a Companion Archive on Bernice “Benny” Summerfield. We’ll tackle her in reviews of Big Finish #13 “Shadow of the Scourge”, and #42 “The Dark Flame”.

** EDIT (I had the number wrong on “Shadow Of The Scourge”, it is Big Finish main line story number 13, NOT #7. This has been corrected.) – Shaun

June brings us to ol’ sixie, so Friday Night Who on 6/5 is the first two parts of “The Two Doctors”.

Episode #232 of Traveling The Vortex goes Beyond The Doctor with Colin Baker, but we are still searching for just the right thing to showcase him in. Stand by for updates!

**EDIT Just decided! We will celebrate Colin Baker fresh off his recent appearance in the episode “The White Iris” of Star Trek Continues! Brand new and readily available to all, go here to view!

FNW 6/12 finishes off “The Two Doctors” with Part 3.

** TTV #233 is even more Big Finish, #45 “Project Lazarus”, and #57 “Arrangements For War”.

NOTE! “Project Lazarus” is a sequel to “Project Twilight” (#23) listeners MAY wish to refresh their memories of the previous adventure…

We’ll celebrate Father’s Day a little early this year on 6/19 with Christopher Eccleston in “Father’s Day” for Friday Night Who

Which will lead us into another one of those fun topics in TTV #234: Great Fathers in Doctor Who. Get your feedback in, we’ll be counting on you guys to help us flesh out the best fictional Dads in the vortex!

Rounding out the end of June for FNW on 6/26 is William Hartnell in “The Aztecs”.

And TTV #235 returns Paul McGann’s Big Finish 8th Doctor Adventures to the line up with #5 “Phobos” and #6 “No More Lies”.

Beyond that? Well Con Season starts back up for some of us, but we can let slip that we have something special planned with Lost Episode Re-Cons, and a book review or two on the horizon.

Episode 223 – Of Two Evil Minds

TTV-Logo-1400-150x150In this week’s podcast, we approach another Adversary Archive, this time revisiting The Master. We review two stories featuring one of the Doctor’s ultimate foe. First a look at the Third Doctor story, The Mind of Evil. Next we tackle a Big Finish, Seventh Doctor audio, The Master.

Also, a lot on the plate for our reactions to the news of the week, with some new series announcements, including some potentially good news for the future of the show, and a new delivery service for some of our favorite episodes.

And of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!

Episode 221 – Lying in Wait

TTV-Logo-1400-150x150In this weeks show, we look back at the 16 year gap in Doctor Who on television, commonly referred to as the Wildness Years. We discuss some of the media that kept Doctor Who on the hearts and minds of fans through the dark times leading up to the show’s return to the airwaves in 2005.

We also share a retrospective on the return of the series to television and discuss some of the influences on the show even today, A celebration of the 10 years the News Series has been going strong.

But first, a look at some of the news of the week, including some guest announcements out of L.I. Who happening this year in New York.

And, of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!

Post Gally Schedule

An update for the schedule for you guys!

The biggest local event of the year kicks off on Friday this week, and to celebrate Karen Gillan and Caitlin Blackwood coming to our neck of the woods our special Planet Comicon Friday Night Who on 3/13 is “The Eleventh Hour” (This marks an update from the previously scheduled “Sound Of Drums / Last Of The Time Lords” since John Barrowman had to cancel his appearance.)

We’ll bring you all the news and recaps of this year’s Planet Comicon in TTV episode #220.

To celebrate it’s “10th Anniversary” since airing, (though a couple of days early) our FNW offering on 3/20 is “Rose”.

TTV #221 takes a detailed look at New Who: 10 Years Out Of The Wilderness. We’ll be discussing various wilderness years Who connections.

FNW on 3/27 will be the first three parts of the Jon Pertwee story “The Mind Of Evil”.

And just sneaking in at the end of the month in TTV #222 is our 3rd Beyond The Doctor: Jon Pertwee. We’ll be reviewing his appearances in Worzel Gummidge, which appear to be wildly available on the youtubes.

FNW 4/3 we finish “The Mind Of Evil” Parts 4-6.

Its the return of everyone’s favorite villain in TTV #223 – Adversary Archive, The Master II, with looks at “The Mind Of Evil”, and Big Finish #49 “Master”.

Hope you got your season 8 DVDs, cause FNW on 4/10 is Capaldi’s intro, “Deep Breath”.

Which frees TTV #224 to return to Paul McGann in Big Finish 8th Doctor Adventures #3 “Horror Of Glam Rock”, and #4 “Immortal Beloved”.

Beyond that? More Daleks than you can shake a stick at! (and really, it wouldn’t do you much good, they’d just exterminate the stick) and Tom Baker’s Beyond the Doctor segment. There’s a hint if you add 2 plus 2…

Episode 212 – Red Ruckus Rising

TTV-Logo-1400-150x150This week we get a little silly, but take a break in out madness to review a couple of Eighth Doctor stories. In this show, we look at (or listen to, rather) Eight’s break out series by Big Finish, Blood of the Daleks parts 1 and 2.  Hear our impressions in the new format of audio drama that was developed for BBC Radio 7.

And, we discuss our first impressions of new companion, Lucie Miller

Also, we look at some news of the week, including last minute negotiations between the BBC and Internet streaming service, Netflix.

Plus, a few more Gallifrey One convention guest announcements.

And of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!

2015 Scheduling

As promised, heres a look at the finalized schedule going into the new year!

Our last Friday Night Who tweet along for 2014 is on 12/26, the Christmas Story “The Next Doctor” with David Tennant.

And our last show review for the year will be all about the newest Christmas Special, “Last Christmas” with Peter Capaldi.

HAPPY 2015!

We’re a little late to celebrate the year of the snake, but then again, time has always been a little Wibbly Wobbly round here. So our first Friday Night Who of the new year on 1/2 is the fifth Doctor story, “Kinda”.

We review a pair of fifth Doctor audio stories in TTV #210, Big Finish #44 “Creatures Of Beauty”, and #66 “The Game”.

Then on 1/9 we present the second Mara story for FNW, “Snakedance”.

TTV #211 is an Adversary Archive on The Mara, and we’ll tackle both stories “Kinda” and “Snakedance”.

FNW 1/16 is Matt Smith in “Victory Of The Daleks”

And a quick turnaround for more Paul McGann audio in TTV #212, as we listen and start the Big Finish 8th Doctor Adventures #1, “Blood Of The Daleks” and #2 “Blood Of The Daleks Part 2”.

FNW 1/23 is one we’ve been trying to get to for a while, William Hartnell in “The Sensorites” Part 1-3.

Here we change it up a bit. Remember two years ago when we did a specific Doctor breakdown for our the run up to the 50th anniversary? And last year we did the E-Books each month to continue that celebration? Well we’re doing it again this year, with a twist! TTV #213 is something we’re calling Beyond The Doctor: William Hartnell. Instead of reviewing an episode, we’ll be discussing his role in the motion picture Carry On Sergeant! We hope to do a different staring roll for each Doctor each month all year long!

We’ll finish “The Sensorites” Part 4-6 on 1/30 for Friday Night Who.

and then TTV #214 has our reviews of “The Sensorites” as well as Big Finish #85 “Red”.

After that? Well it’s the start of Con season for us, with Gallifrey One and Kansas City Planet Comicion looming on the horizon, but we’ll have something hammered out for you all by then! As always thanks for listening and following along, and we’ll see you in the vortex…

Schedule Update To Finish Out 2014

And as promised on last week’s podcast, here’s the schedule to finish out the wild ride that has been 2014!

For Friday Night Who TONIGHT on Halloween, we get our Cyberman on, with the first four parts of  “The Invasion” with Patrick Troughton.

Which should be the perfect lead in to this week’s TTV #201 to discuss “Dark Water”.

FNW 11/7 – “The Invasion” Part 5-8

To finish off Capaldi’s first season, TTV #202 takes a look at “Death In Heaven”.

Colin Baker returns to FNW on 11/14 in “Timelash”.

And a special treat for Traveling The Vortex #203. It’s a Companion Archive! Who for? Why everybody’s favorite shapeshifting Penguin, Frobisher! We’ll be discussing Big Finish #14 “The Holy Terror” and the Big Finish Special episode “The Maltese Penguin”.

FNW 11/21 is “Paradise Towers” with 7th Doctor Sylvester McCoy.

EDIT – As Glenn mentioned on the show last week and this, we are adding a few comic elements to the episode in order to do a “mini” adversary archive for the Quarks. If you can find them, you may wish to consult these for additional reference:

(Invasion of the Quarks, The Killer Wasps, The Jungle Of Doom, Martha The Mechanical Housemaid, The Duelist, Death Race, The Fires Down Below, Happy Deathday)

TTV #204 will have our reviews of “Paradise Towers”, and Big Finish Audio #46 “Flip Flop”.

Thanksgiving weekend brings us  Chicago Tardis! And while we still have yet to manage to organize plans to get the three of us up there (We’re working on it) we ARE watching “The Robots Of Death” for Friday Night Who this week.

Episode #205 is full of Fun and Games. We will have YOUR reports from Chicago Tardis (if anyone is going, PLEASE let us know!) We’ll touch on Titan Comic’s 12th Doctor Premier issue, and spend the rest of the time discussing the Doctor Who tie-ins: Risk & Yahtzee. Oh, and a special treat (if all goes well) from the folks over at Tiny Rebel Games in regards to Doctor Who Legacy.

FNW 12/5 – “Black Orchid”

TTV #206 – and a pair of Peter Davison audios Big Finish #41 “Nekromanteia”, and #56 “The Axis Of Insanity”.

I’m really looking forward to returning to this Jon Pertwee story for Friday Night Who on 12/12, “Frontier In Space”. It’s a long one, so we’ll do the first three parts. 1-3

TTV #207 – We’ll touch base with Titan Comic’s 10th and 11th Doctors story arcs, and revisit Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor and Charlie Pollard in Big Finish Audio #103 “The Girl Who Never Was”.

FNW 12/19 – “Frontier In Space” Part 4-6.

Earlier this year we started reviewing last year’s 50th Anniversary E Book Series, and got a little side tracked once series 8 came on.  Time to rectify that in Traveling The Vortex #208, as we’ll review the final four books in the series: E Book 9: “The Beast Of Babylon”, E Book 10: “The Mystery Of The Haunted Cottage”, E Book 11: “Nothing O’Clock”, E Book 12: “Lights Out”.

Our last FNW in December (12/26) is the David Tennant Christmas special “The Next Doctor”.

And our last show of 2014, TTV #209 will cover all the glory that is this years (still untitled as of this posting) Peter Capaldi Christmas Special.

Which takes us all the way up to 2015. Without sounding the spoiler horn, I can only say the new year holds a lot of potential so far. More details to come!

Episode 188 – A Pirate’s Life For Me

TTV-Logo-1400-150x150Arrrr! In this week’s show, we look at two fun romps in the Doctor Who Universe.

First, our views on the often maligned First Doctor story, The Space Museum. Find out where we land on the story.

Then, after much anticipation, we tackle the Big Finish audio, Doctor Who and the Pirates, featuring the Sixth Doctor and Evelyn Smythe. We’ll share our thoughts on this unique story.

Also, in news, some theater announcements for the Series 8 story Deep Breath, plus some guest announcements from two of the biggest U.S, Doctor Who conventions.

And, of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!

The Schedule Has Been Prepared For

Finally.  Sorry for the delay in getting this posted, but as always, thanks for your patience.  For those of you who like to follow along at home, read on.  For those of you that like to be surprised by your podcast content, spoilers ahead…

Friday Night Who returns to FRIDAY on  the Fourth Of July with “The Seeds Of Doom”, Parts 1-3 (hey, what could be more patriotic than watching SCORBY blow stuff up?).

TTV #184 will be our reviews of the fifth (and final) season of the Sarah Jane Adventures.

FNW 7/11 sees us finish off “The Seeds Of Doom” Parts 4-6

And then a show I am dreading doing, as we look back in fond remembrance: TTV #185 In Memorium: Elizabeth Sladden: Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith

A whole month of Audio goodness follows!

Friday Night Who on 7/18 is Sylvester McCoy in “Silver Nemesis”

Which sets us up nicely for Traveling The Vortex #186 since it’s the seventh Doctor month!  We’ll cover Big Finish Audio #36 “The Rapture”, and E Book 7: “The Ripple Effect”.

FNW 7/25 sees Peter Davison return in “Resurrection Of The Daleks”

TTV #187 we’ll give our thoughts on issues #1 of Titan Comics NEW WHO Lines, and cover Big Finish #39 “The Church And The Crown”.

Set the waybac machine (or TARDIS controls) for the William Hartnel era,  FNW on 8/1 is “The Space Museum”

Episode #188 will cover our thoughts on “The Space Museum”, and Big Finish #43 “Doctor Who and The Pirates” (Looking at you, Dr. Phil!)

I know we just did it back in October of last year, but since this is the eighth month, we had to work some Paul McGann in somewhere.  How fitting on 8/8 for Doctor Who: The Movie?

Traveling The Vortex #189 celebrates the eighth Doctor with Big Finish Audio #101 Absolution, and E-Book 8: Spore

Friday Night Who 8/15  brings David Tenant Back in the two part “Human Nature”/”Family Of Blood”.

A special show this week for #190 as we look at the similarities (and differences) between the episode Human Nature, and the New Adventures novel Human Nature by Paul Cornell that it was taken from.

And then, the wait is OVER! We’ll revisit Matt Smith’s departure on 8/23 (sorry Keith) in “The Time Of The Doctor” for Friday Night Who to make room for incoming Peter Capaldi!

and our 191st show will be all about the Series Eight premier “Deep Breath”.

After that?  Well, to quote a certain museum curator, “Who knows?”

Episode 181 – Who Cares

TTV Logo 1400In this week’s podcast, WE CARE! We tackle two more Big Finish audios starring The Eighth Doctor, Charley, and C’rizz. First we look at Something Inside. Then our heroes are trapped in a second prison in the story Memory Lane.

Also, some announcements in news including a Doctor Who World Tour and the first round of Galley guests.

And, of course, your feedback

Enjoy!

A Schedule Update While Waiting For An Update

While hammering out some details on our upcoming appearance at British Fest at the end of June, here’s the run up schedule.  Once we have some confirmation, I’ll post it up through July.

Friday Night Who on 6/13 is the first three parts of  “The Enemy Of The World”.

For show #181 we’ll be covering two Big Finish Audios staring Paul McGann,  #83 “Something Inside” and #88 “Memory Lane”.

We’ll conclude “The Enemy Of The World” for Friday Night Who with parts 4-6 on 6/20.

…and then we’ll discuss Patrick Troughton’s dual performance in “The Enemy Of The World”  on TTV #182.

The following week is British Fest, so we’ll let you know once we get the details nailed down!

It’s Spring Time For Schedule

This week is Planet Comicon… so the “schedule” may be a bit wobbly wobbly. BUT, we plan on doing “Remembrance Of The Daleks” on 3/14 with Sylvester McCoy. (keep in mind we may not actually get to participate much due to our con responsibilities.)

Our show this week #168 will be all about our experiences at KC Planet Comicon 2014.

On 3/21 FNW is  Jon Pertwee in the first 3 parts of “The Mutants”.

TTV #169 is what we’re jokingly calling “The Fan Show 2”.  Expect some more interviews and some surprises…

FNW on 3/28 we finish “The Mutants” Part 4-6.

We have our third Doctor celebration in episode #170 as we discuss “The Mutants” and E Book 3: “The Spear Of Destiny”.

We go all the way back to William Hartnell for FNW on 4/4 in “The War Machines”.

TTV #171 contains our reviews of “The War Machines” and Big Finish #80 “Time Works”.

For April’s fourth Doctor celebration, Friday Night Who on 4/11 is “Image Of The Fendahl”.

and then for the show TTV #172 “Image Of The Fendahl” and E Book 4: “The Roots Of Evil”.

On 4/18 David Tennant makes a return appearance to FNW in Series 3s “Tooth And Claw”.

We side step out of the Whoniverse a bit in episode #173 by covering the first 5 episodes of “Torchwood: Miracle Day”.

4/25 brings us the first three parts of the recently released Patrick Troughton serial “The Web Of Fear” on Friday Night Who.

Our show that week (TTV #174) wraps up Miracle Day with “Torchwood: Miracle Day” Parts 6-10.

And then we finish “The Web Of Fear” with Parts 4-6 on 5/2 for Friday Night Who.

And on the horizon? I’m sorry, it’s the event horizon of a black hole, and the schedule was sucked

into it just

now.

New Year, New Schedule

*** CORRECTED ***

As the final days of Matt Smith and 2013 wane and Peter Capaldi and 2014 near, we present the schedule for January of those of you who like to follow along at home.  Sorry for the late notice positing this, holiday scheduling is trixy for fat Hobbitses.

The last Friday Night Who of 2013 features Peter Capaldi as… some other guy. David Tennant stars in “The Fires Of Pompeii”.

Our show this week is all about the epic Christmas special “The Time Of The Doctor” and bidding Matt Smith a fond farewell.

* On 1/3 we’ll watch first Doctor William Hartnell in “Planet Of Giants” (NOT “The Sensorites”) for FNW.

* TTV #158 will have our review of “Planet Of Giants”, and the first of last year’s E Books: “A Big Hand For The Doctor”.

Friday Night Who on 1/10 starts “The E-Space Trilogy: Full Circle” with fourth Doctor Tom Baker.

TTV #159 is the Big Finish 4th Doctor Adventure #2: “The Renaissance Man”, and “Full Circle”.

FNW 1/17 continues “The E-Space Trilogy: State Of Decay”.

TTV #160 is Big Finish 4th Doctor Adventures #3: “The Wrath of The Iceni” and “State Of Decay”.

We finish “The E-Space Trilogy: Warriors Gate” for Friday Night Who on 1/24.

Our show (TTV #161) that week will cover “Warriors Gate”, and The E-Space Trilogy in full.

Christopher Eccleston rounds out the month for FNW on 1/31 in the two part “Aliens In London / World War III”

Leaving our show (TTV #162) open for some Paul McGann Big Finish stories, #75 “Scaredy Cat”, and #77 “Other Lives”.

That takes us up to February, which of course is Gally, and sees the US release of “The Moonbase”.  More details as we get them!

Schedule Update

We were unaware when we were scheduling that IDW “Prisoners of Time 9” does not release until 10/2 so to give everyone a chance to buy a copy and read the comic we are pushing our review off a week. The schedule below is updated to reflect that. Changes will be in bold.

October is here, (or it soon will be) so it’s time to start our celebration of the Ninth Doctor era!  We kick things off on 9/27 with Friday Night Who and the just released, animated, alternate ninth doctor Richard E. Grant in “Scream Of The Shalka”.

Traveling The Vortex comes to you a bit late for episode #144, and we’ll discuss Shaun’s trip (we’ll indulge him a bit, but not much), and the Big Finish/Audio Go “Destiny Of The Doctor: Night Of The Whisper”.

On 10/4 if you missed it during Daphne Ashbrook’s great re-watch, you get another chance as we do “Doctor Who: The Movie” as Friday Night Who continues to countdown the Doctors.

TTV #145 brings us our thoughts on  the IDW “Prisoners Of Time 9”, and we’ll step back to the 6th Doctor and Evelyn in Big Finish #23 “Project: Twilight”.

A light of another kind illuminates Friday Night Who on 10/11, “Ghost Light” is our 7th Doctor offering for the countdown.

A double dose of seven for TTV #146 as we review “Ghost Light” and Big Finish #12 “The Fires Of Vulcan.

Number six on the countdown for FNW 10/18 is “Vengeance On Varos”.

TTV #147 is all about our 50th Anniversary Discussion of The 9th Doctor Era & the Doctor Who Revisited: The 9th Doctor.

And Friday Night Who on 10/25 features our mascot, the mighty Myrka.  Oh yes, “Warriors Of The Deep” made the countdown.

And going forward?  Let’s just say we’re celebrating Halloween a day late but it will be filled with Terror…

OF THE ZYGONS!

Schedule No. 9
