The Schedule Has Been Prepared For

Finally.  Sorry for the delay in getting this posted, but as always, thanks for your patience.  For those of you who like to follow along at home, read on.  For those of you that like to be surprised by your podcast content, spoilers ahead…

Friday Night Who returns to FRIDAY on  the Fourth Of July with “The Seeds Of Doom”, Parts 1-3 (hey, what could be more patriotic than watching SCORBY blow stuff up?).

TTV #184 will be our reviews of the fifth (and final) season of the Sarah Jane Adventures.

FNW 7/11 sees us finish off “The Seeds Of Doom” Parts 4-6

And then a show I am dreading doing, as we look back in fond remembrance: TTV #185 In Memorium: Elizabeth Sladden: Goodbye, Sarah Jane Smith

A whole month of Audio goodness follows!

Friday Night Who on 7/18 is Sylvester McCoy in “Silver Nemesis”

Which sets us up nicely for Traveling The Vortex #186 since it’s the seventh Doctor month!  We’ll cover Big Finish Audio #36 “The Rapture”, and E Book 7: “The Ripple Effect”.

FNW 7/25 sees Peter Davison return in “Resurrection Of The Daleks”

TTV #187 we’ll give our thoughts on issues #1 of Titan Comics NEW WHO Lines, and cover Big Finish #39 “The Church And The Crown”.

Set the waybac machine (or TARDIS controls) for the William Hartnel era,  FNW on 8/1 is “The Space Museum”

Episode #188 will cover our thoughts on “The Space Museum”, and Big Finish #43 “Doctor Who and The Pirates” (Looking at you, Dr. Phil!)

I know we just did it back in October of last year, but since this is the eighth month, we had to work some Paul McGann in somewhere.  How fitting on 8/8 for Doctor Who: The Movie?

Traveling The Vortex #189 celebrates the eighth Doctor with Big Finish Audio #101 Absolution, and E-Book 8: Spore

Friday Night Who 8/15  brings David Tenant Back in the two part “Human Nature”/”Family Of Blood”.

A special show this week for #190 as we look at the similarities (and differences) between the episode Human Nature, and the New Adventures novel Human Nature by Paul Cornell that it was taken from.

And then, the wait is OVER! We’ll revisit Matt Smith’s departure on 8/23 (sorry Keith) in “The Time Of The Doctor” for Friday Night Who to make room for incoming Peter Capaldi!

and our 191st show will be all about the Series Eight premier “Deep Breath”.

After that?  Well, to quote a certain museum curator, “Who knows?”

Who Schedules the Schedule?

As promised, the long awaited update for what’s coming up on the Vortex for the next month or so.

Tonight (7/26) our Friday Night Who concludes the epic Trial Of A Time Lord with “The Ultimate Foe”.

Traveling The Vortex episode #135 includes our thoughts on “The Ultimate Foe”, our overall impressions of the “Trial Of A Time Lord” arc, and our retrospective 50th Anniversary Discussion on The 6th Doctor Era.

Next week for Friday Night Who we take a break and zip back to Matt Smith’s era with the Neil Gaimon penned “The Doctor’s Wife”.

Paul McGann’s eighth Doctor makes a return to the show in #136 as we finish the divergent universe story ark from Big Finish in stories #63 “Caerdroia”, and #64 “The Next Life”.

FNW on 8/9 kicks off our seventh Doctor celebrations with Sylvester McCoy in “Dragonfire”.

TTV #137 we’ll review “Dragonfire”, Big Finish and Audio Go’s “Destiny Of The Doctor 7: Shockwave” and IDW comic’s “Prisoners Of Time 7”.

8/16 brings us “The Sontaran Experiment” for Friday Night Who.

In show #138 we step away from Who to cover  “The Sarah Jane Adventures, Season 4”.

FNW on 8/23 is the just released in North America “The Green Death” with third Doctor Jon Pertwee.  We’ll watch episodes 1-3 of the story.

Traveling The Vortex #139 sees us reviewing the seventh Doctor Who Revisited, as well as our 50th Anniversary Discussion over the 7th Doctor Era

We’ll finish “The Green Death” (4-6) for Friday Night Who on 8/30.

And review “The Green Death” in depth in episode #140.

After that?  Oh, 11 weeks of… well why spoil it?  But I’ll give you a hint… there’s eleven of them…

Episode 62 – The Tin Dog Saves the Day

This week we step away from the Doctor Who series to tackle another spin-off of our favorite show, The Sarah Jane Adventures. We look at the complete First Series of the popular British children’s series.

Also, a look at this weeks news including the never-ending “will he / won’t he leave the series” saga surrounding Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith. And reaction to Steven Moffat’s comment on his liking the new monsters in Doctor Who over the classic monsters.

And of course your feedback.

Enjoy!

No New Sarah Jane

The BBC website confirms that despite reports to the contrary, there will be no new episodes filmed of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

The full statement regarding the future of the series is below:

“Contrary to press reports today we can confirm that no new episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures will be filmed following the tragic death of actress Elisabeth Sladen in April, 2011. As a tribute to Elisabeth the six episodes that were recorded with her last year will be broadcast on CBBC at a date to be confirmed.”

Elisabeth Sladen first played the role of Sarah Jane in Doctor Who in 1973 and following her return to the show in 2006, played the eponymous lead in the award-winning CBBC series, The Sarah Jane Adventures, from 2007 onwards.

While I agree with the decision not to continue the show on without Elisabeth Sladen (and really, how could it even be considered?  The absence of Sarah Jane would be a hole to big to fill, and recasting is out of the question), I do think CBBC should look into filming a final episode, giving the show a finale and handling her death “in universe”.  Yes we had tributes and dedications, but Sarah Jane has become too much of a fixture with the Whoniverse, and to just drop the show and never reference her again?  Seems wrong.  While it would be undoubtedly tough to watch and film, her fans deserve at least that.
