2015 Scheduling

As promised, heres a look at the finalized schedule going into the new year!

Our last Friday Night Who tweet along for 2014 is on 12/26, the Christmas Story “The Next Doctor” with David Tennant.

And our last show review for the year will be all about the newest Christmas Special, “Last Christmas” with Peter Capaldi.

HAPPY 2015!

We’re a little late to celebrate the year of the snake, but then again, time has always been a little Wibbly Wobbly round here. So our first Friday Night Who of the new year on 1/2 is the fifth Doctor story, “Kinda”.

We review a pair of fifth Doctor audio stories in TTV #210, Big Finish #44 “Creatures Of Beauty”, and #66 “The Game”.

Then on 1/9 we present the second Mara story for FNW, “Snakedance”.

TTV #211 is an Adversary Archive on The Mara, and we’ll tackle both stories “Kinda” and “Snakedance”.

FNW 1/16 is Matt Smith in “Victory Of The Daleks”

And a quick turnaround for more Paul McGann audio in TTV #212, as we listen and start the Big Finish 8th Doctor Adventures #1, “Blood Of The Daleks” and #2 “Blood Of The Daleks Part 2”.

FNW 1/23 is one we’ve been trying to get to for a while, William Hartnell in “The Sensorites” Part 1-3.

Here we change it up a bit. Remember two years ago when we did a specific Doctor breakdown for our the run up to the 50th anniversary? And last year we did the E-Books each month to continue that celebration? Well we’re doing it again this year, with a twist! TTV #213 is something we’re calling Beyond The Doctor: William Hartnell. Instead of reviewing an episode, we’ll be discussing his role in the motion picture Carry On Sergeant! We hope to do a different staring roll for each Doctor each month all year long!

We’ll finish “The Sensorites” Part 4-6 on 1/30 for Friday Night Who.

and then TTV #214 has our reviews of “The Sensorites” as well as Big Finish #85 “Red”.

After that? Well it’s the start of Con season for us, with Gallifrey One and Kansas City Planet Comicion looming on the horizon, but we’ll have something hammered out for you all by then! As always thanks for listening and following along, and we’ll see you in the vortex…

Schedule Update To Finish Out 2014

And as promised on last week’s podcast, here’s the schedule to finish out the wild ride that has been 2014!

For Friday Night Who TONIGHT on Halloween, we get our Cyberman on, with the first four parts of  “The Invasion” with Patrick Troughton.

Which should be the perfect lead in to this week’s TTV #201 to discuss “Dark Water”.

FNW 11/7 – “The Invasion” Part 5-8

To finish off Capaldi’s first season, TTV #202 takes a look at “Death In Heaven”.

Colin Baker returns to FNW on 11/14 in “Timelash”.

And a special treat for Traveling The Vortex #203. It’s a Companion Archive! Who for? Why everybody’s favorite shapeshifting Penguin, Frobisher! We’ll be discussing Big Finish #14 “The Holy Terror” and the Big Finish Special episode “The Maltese Penguin”.

FNW 11/21 is “Paradise Towers” with 7th Doctor Sylvester McCoy.

EDIT – As Glenn mentioned on the show last week and this, we are adding a few comic elements to the episode in order to do a “mini” adversary archive for the Quarks. If you can find them, you may wish to consult these for additional reference:

(Invasion of the Quarks, The Killer Wasps, The Jungle Of Doom, Martha The Mechanical Housemaid, The Duelist, Death Race, The Fires Down Below, Happy Deathday)

TTV #204 will have our reviews of “Paradise Towers”, and Big Finish Audio #46 “Flip Flop”.

Thanksgiving weekend brings us  Chicago Tardis! And while we still have yet to manage to organize plans to get the three of us up there (We’re working on it) we ARE watching “The Robots Of Death” for Friday Night Who this week.

Episode #205 is full of Fun and Games. We will have YOUR reports from Chicago Tardis (if anyone is going, PLEASE let us know!) We’ll touch on Titan Comic’s 12th Doctor Premier issue, and spend the rest of the time discussing the Doctor Who tie-ins: Risk & Yahtzee. Oh, and a special treat (if all goes well) from the folks over at Tiny Rebel Games in regards to Doctor Who Legacy.

FNW 12/5 – “Black Orchid”

TTV #206 – and a pair of Peter Davison audios Big Finish #41 “Nekromanteia”, and #56 “The Axis Of Insanity”.

I’m really looking forward to returning to this Jon Pertwee story for Friday Night Who on 12/12, “Frontier In Space”. It’s a long one, so we’ll do the first three parts. 1-3

TTV #207 – We’ll touch base with Titan Comic’s 10th and 11th Doctors story arcs, and revisit Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor and Charlie Pollard in Big Finish Audio #103 “The Girl Who Never Was”.

FNW 12/19 – “Frontier In Space” Part 4-6.

Earlier this year we started reviewing last year’s 50th Anniversary E Book Series, and got a little side tracked once series 8 came on.  Time to rectify that in Traveling The Vortex #208, as we’ll review the final four books in the series: E Book 9: “The Beast Of Babylon”, E Book 10: “The Mystery Of The Haunted Cottage”, E Book 11: “Nothing O’Clock”, E Book 12: “Lights Out”.

Our last FNW in December (12/26) is the David Tennant Christmas special “The Next Doctor”.

And our last show of 2014, TTV #209 will cover all the glory that is this years (still untitled as of this posting) Peter Capaldi Christmas Special.

Which takes us all the way up to 2015. Without sounding the spoiler horn, I can only say the new year holds a lot of potential so far. More details to come!

Episode 54 – Little Grey Men

In this week’s episode we start our look at the gap year specials, including the computer animated CBBC outing, Dreamland. Then on to the proper specials starting with The Next Doctor.

Also, our impressions on Music of the Spheres, the mini-episode that premièred at the Royal Albert Hall in London before the Intermission of the Doctor Who Prom on 27 July 2008.

And we play catch up on the wedding news of David Tennant to his fiancé Georgia Moffat (yes, Shaun did forget some big news).

And of course, your feedback. Enjoy!

P.S. As per our debate at the end of the episode, on if the “Attack of the Graske” has ever been released, it hasn’t. From TARDIS.wikia:

“Although the interactive nature of the story would be compatible with DVD/Blu-Ray controllers, as of 2011 no home video release of Attack of the Graske has occurred or been announced. This renders it one of only two David Tennant-era Doctor Who-related productions (the other being the non-canonical Tonight’s the Night skit) that has not, and likely will not, see official home video release.”

Happy New Vortex Schedule

Hope 2012 is starting off great for everyone, we’ve got (we hope) some fun things planned for this year, starting with our show tonight, (#53) in which we’ll cover the first three Paul McGann audio adventures from Big Finish, #16 Storm Warning, #17 The Sword Of Orion, and #18 The Stones Of Venice.

There’s been a change in the program line up for Friday Night Who on 1/6, instead of our previously listed “The Seeds Of Death” we’ll be jumping ahead to “The Curse Of Peladon” with 3rd Doctor Jon Pertwee

Traveling The Vortex episode #54 has our discussion of the animated story “Dreamland” and the first of the specials, “The Next Doctor”.

Friday Night Who for 1/13 follows with the Pertwee adventure, “The Monster Of Peladon”

We continue working through the specials with TTV #55, covering “Planet Of The Dead” and “The Waters Of Mars”

Then Friday Night Who on 1/20 will be the delayed Patrick Troughton episode “The Seeds Of Death”

Our 56th episode will be an Adversary Archive featuring the fearsome Ice Warriors, as we go back and recap the last three weeks with “Curse Of Peladon”, “Monster Of Peladon” and “Seeds Of Death”

To round out January, join us on 1/27 for Friday Night Who featuring the last David Tennant story, “The End Of Time Part 1 and 2”

And then we’ll spend a whole episode talking about that epic story, (and the fact that Keith will have now seen ALL of new Who).

As always, thank you for listening!
