Episode 166 – Reoccurring Characters

ttvsmallIn this week’s show we have a lot of news to react to, including the announcement of Samuel Anderson joining Doctor Who Series 8. Also, some speculation of the possibility of new things on the horizon in the toy building world.

But, what would a show be without a few reviews. This time we look at the recently released Second Doctor story, The Moonbase, with newly animated episodes.

Also, a look at last year’s 50th anniversary anthology piece in the ongoing e-book series, The Nameless City, also featuring the Second Doctor and Jamie.

Plus, a brief look at the new update from everyone’s favorite game, Doctor Who: Legacy.

And, of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!

Schedule, Beware The Ides Of March!

A short scheduling update this week, as we wanted to give you heads up on a couple of audios coming up!

This week’s Friday Night Who (2/28) is the long awaited, recently released Patrick Troughton second Doctor story “The Moonbase”

Our show (TTV #166) will include reviews of “The Moonbase” as well as the second E Book from the 50th Anniversary series, “The Nameless City”.

FNW on 3/7 is Planet Of The Ood with tenth Doctor, David Tennant.

A pair of big finish audios for TTV #167, both main line stories: #37 The Sandman featuring sixth Doctor Colin Baker and Evelyn, and #39 Bang-Bang-a-Boom with seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy.

We’re concocting something special for Friday Night Who the week of 3/14 (In fact, it may not even happen on Friday).  Suffice to say we are attempting to involve Kansas City Planet Comicon guest Sylvester McCoy to join us in some way, shape or form.  We’ll try and keep you updated as best we can. Right now it looks like it will either be “Remembrance Of The Daleks” OR “The Happiness Patrol” for the story that week.  Trust us, there’s a method at work here.  Madness too.  But a method nonetheless.

And episode #168 will be a full breakdown of our experiences at Kansas City Planet Comicon for our listeners.

More to come as we get things finalized!

The Schedule Games

As promised, here’s the upcoming schedule for those of you who like to follow along at home…

Friday Night Who on 1/31 is the Christopher Eccleston two parter, “Aliens In London” / “World War III”.

Saturday February first at 10pm is a special Flicks With Friends. Join us for the original Planet Of The Apes.

TTV #162  has our reviews of the next two Paul McGann Big Finish stories #75 “Scaredy Cat” and #77 “Other Lives”.

FNW 2/7 is 7th Doctor (and recent addition to the Kanas City Planet Comicon guest list) Sylvester McCoy in “Survival”.

Fun and Games are on the docket for TTV #163 as we talk about Doctor Who Legacy, Doctor Who Monopoly, and the Doctor Who Card Game.

A romantic Friday Night Who for Valentine’s Day celebrates the secret love the Doctor and the Rani share.  Or is it the clandestine threesome with the Master?  Whatever. We’re celebrating Colin Baker being at Gally, so on 2/14 it’s “The Mark Of The Rani”.

Keith and Glenn will tackle some book reviews on TTV #164:  Keith is reading the third Doctor story Harvest Of Time by Alistair Reynolds while Glenn tackles the tenth Doctor story The Resurrection Casket by Justin Richards.  And while Shaun will be recovering from Gally and enjoying the So Cal Sunshine, he’s committed to trying to read Spiral Scratch by Gary Russell, featuring the sixth Doctor.

Peter Davison (and Adric) returns to FNW on 2/21 for “Earthshock”.

Now of course we’ll have all the updates and side trips from Gally as the weekend progresses, but the full blown story of the 25 Years Of Galifrey One will unfold in episode #165.

And a real treat for Friday Night Who on 2/28 as we watch Patrick Troughton in the soon-to-be-just released in North America  “The Moonbase” with completed animation segments!

and for Traveling The Vortex #166 we’ll review “The Moonbase” along with the second in last year’s 50th anniversary E Books, “The Nameless City”.

More goodies on tap for March, including all the awesomeness that is sure to be Kansas City Planet Comicion.  Stay tuned!

New Year, New Schedule

*** CORRECTED ***

As the final days of Matt Smith and 2013 wane and Peter Capaldi and 2014 near, we present the schedule for January of those of you who like to follow along at home.  Sorry for the late notice positing this, holiday scheduling is trixy for fat Hobbitses.

The last Friday Night Who of 2013 features Peter Capaldi as… some other guy. David Tennant stars in “The Fires Of Pompeii”.

Our show this week is all about the epic Christmas special “The Time Of The Doctor” and bidding Matt Smith a fond farewell.

* On 1/3 we’ll watch first Doctor William Hartnell in “Planet Of Giants” (NOT “The Sensorites”) for FNW.

* TTV #158 will have our review of “Planet Of Giants”, and the first of last year’s E Books: “A Big Hand For The Doctor”.

Friday Night Who on 1/10 starts “The E-Space Trilogy: Full Circle” with fourth Doctor Tom Baker.

TTV #159 is the Big Finish 4th Doctor Adventure #2: “The Renaissance Man”, and “Full Circle”.

FNW 1/17 continues “The E-Space Trilogy: State Of Decay”.

TTV #160 is Big Finish 4th Doctor Adventures #3: “The Wrath of The Iceni” and “State Of Decay”.

We finish “The E-Space Trilogy: Warriors Gate” for Friday Night Who on 1/24.

Our show (TTV #161) that week will cover “Warriors Gate”, and The E-Space Trilogy in full.

Christopher Eccleston rounds out the month for FNW on 1/31 in the two part “Aliens In London / World War III”

Leaving our show (TTV #162) open for some Paul McGann Big Finish stories, #75 “Scaredy Cat”, and #77 “Other Lives”.

That takes us up to February, which of course is Gally, and sees the US release of “The Moonbase”.  More details as we get them!
