Episode 219 – Ice, Ice, Baby

TTV-Logo-1400-150x150In this week’s podcast, we feature a mini-Adversary Archive with a look at two stories featuring the Ice Warriors.

First, we revisit the Second Doctor television story The Ice Warriors. Now, we know that we’ve already reviewed this one a while back, but this time we examine it for the first time with the linking animated segments.

Then, it’s the Fifth Doctor and Peri in the Big Finish audio drama, Red Dawn.

Also, more sad news this week with the loss of another Doctor Who alum. Plus, more details on what would have been Jenna Coleman’s departure from the show.

And, of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!

Spring Into Our New Schedule

A bit late for my taste in trying to keep you all up to date, but here we go for the next batch of goodies!

For our last Friday Night Who of January (1/30) we’ll finish off  “The Sensorites” with parts 4-6.

Our show this week (TTV #214) covers “The Sensorites”, and Big Finish Audio mainline story #85 Red, (featuring Sylvester McCoy, NOT Peter Davison as I had previously insinuated. Oops.)

FNW on 2/6 is the fourth Doctor story “Underworld”.

TTV #215: We’ll review “Underworld” and Big Finish 4th Doctor Adventures #4: “Energy Of The Daleks”.

Con season officially starts this week, as Shaun will be traveling to Galifrey One in LA. FNW for 2/13 is the 50th anniversary story “Day Of The Doctor”

…which allows the boys left behind to do a book review over The Engines Of War in TTV #216. (Shaun may or may not be able to take part.)

FNW on 2/20 is “Boom Town”

and TTV #217 will have full reports from Shaun and Mel (and hopefully some surprises) over The 26 Seasons of Gallifrey One.

FNW 2/27 starts off the epic Patrick Troughton adventure “The Ice Warriors” with Parts 1-3.

Sneaking in right at the end of February in TTV #218 is our second “Beyond The Doctor” segment featuring Patrick Troughton.  We’ll be reviewing Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger.

Friday Night Who on 3/6 finishes “The Ice Warriors” Part 4-6.

And then, TTV #219 is an Adversary Archive: The Ice Warriors 2! with our reviews of “The Ice Warriors” (now with animation), and Big Finish audio #8 Red Dawn.

The following week is Kansas City’s Planet Comicon! in celebration of con guest John Barrowman, we’ll watch “The Sound Of Drums / The Last Of The Time Lords” on 2/13  (but due to con obligations the boys themselves may be absent)

And our show #220 will bring you all the awesomeness that is Planet Comicon 2015.

Beyond that? Well, it might just be time to bone up on your knowledge of the Master and his evil mind…

Animated Ice Warriors!

Despite our speculation and doubts on the podcast about the missing episodes of The Ice Warriors being animated, BBC announced otherwise.

That’s right. Missing episodes 2 and 3 will be animated, by a different studio than the one who did Reign of Terror and who will be doing the Tenth Planet.
The animation company Qurios Entertainment has worked on the Nick Frost sci-fi sitcom Hyperdrive doing visual effects  and titles for Doctor Who DVD extra series Who Peter.

According to doctorwho.tv:

“We’ve been discussing the various ways Qurios could reconstruct these episodes for over three years” said Dan Hall, Managing Director of Pup Ltd Media Consultancy, producer of the DVD. “So it’s really, really satisfying to finally see them animated. Qurios have a great track record in excellent and innovative animations”.

When asked about using a different animation studio to previous releases, Hall replied, “Doctor Who has had many different visual styles thanks to changing directors, designers and production methods. We wanted to mirror this in our choice of animation partners”.

Below is an animation preview. Enjoy!

Here is the list:

February 25: The Ark in Space: Special Edition
March 11: The Aztecs: Special Edition (plus Galaxy 4 reconstruction)
May 6: The Visitation: Special Edition
May 27: Inferno: Special Edition
June 3: The Mind of Evil
June 24: Terror of the Zygons
July 15: Spearhead from Space Blu-Ray
August 5: The Green Death: Special Edition
August 26: The Ice Warriors

Episode 56 – On the Rocks

In this week’s show we make the trip way back for an Adversary Archive on the Ice Warriors starting with the Second Doctor’s first encounter in the appropriately titled The Ice Warriors. Then another outing with the Second Doctor as the Ice Warriors return in The Seeds of Death.

Next, we turn our attention to two Third Doctor stories, The Curse of Peladon, and it’s sequel, The Monster of Peladon. And then Glenn reviews a medium that has not been looked at until now on Traveling the Vortex, as the Tenth Doctor and Donna meet the Ice Warriors in the IDW comic book, Cold Blooded War.

Of course we chime in on the latest news and rumors, and listen to your feedback. Enjoy!
