Series Seven Part 2 Scheduling Part 1

Ah. That time of year when you can smell New Who on the air like the coming of Spring, and all my scheduling work goes out the window and has to be cobbled together last minute to take those new episodes into account.  Oh well.

Tonight’s Friday Night Who (3/22) is part of our monthly celebration of the second Doctor, “The Mind Robber”.

Episode #117 of Traveling The Vortex is all things second Doctor, and will include our reviews of “The Mind Robber”, IDW’s comic “Prisoners Of Time 2”, Big Finish: Destiny Of The Doctor 2: Shadows Of Death, our look back over the 2nd Doctor Era for our 50th Anniversary Discussion, and, if Keith gets it read in time, his review of the book “The Moonbase”

Friday Night Who on 3/29 gears us up for the new season by revisiting Matt Smith in “The Impossible Astronaut” and “Day Of The Moon”…

…which leaves TTV #118 reserved to devote our full attention to “The Bells Of St. John”.

On 4/5 FNW revisits “Doctor Who: The Movie” in celebration of Daphne Ashbrook coming to Planet Comicon that weekend.

Look for updates all weekend long, (and maybe a few special exclusives too,) but we’ll give you the full scoop on Planet Comicon 2013 in episode #119, as well as start the month of April with our celebration of Jon Pertwee’s third Doctor by reviewing IDW Comic’s “Prisoners Of Time 3”.

FNW 4/12 is “The Waters Of Mars” with tenth Doctor David Tennant.

Because of the hugeness of Planet Comicon, you may have noticed we didn’t review the new episode of Who last week.  Well fret not, because you’ll get a two-fer in Traveling The Vortex #120, covering both “The Rings Of Akhaten”, and “The Cold War”.

and the plot thickens…

Friday Night Who 7/20/12

What is Friday Night Who?

Well, as an impromptu tradition that started accidentally, we watched a Doctor Who episode late one Friday night back in April of last year.  I commented to Glenn that it felt like the old days, when we used to watch Who on KCPT (one of our local public television affiliates that used to show omnibus editions of Doctor Who).  We decided to revive the tradition with a modern twist.  In addition to watching the episode, we’d tweet-a-long to it with other Whovians on Twitter.  And so, Friday Night Who was born.  It’s a fun way to share moments, thoughts and experiences with the Doctor, and make some new friends to boot.

Tonight is Jon Pertwee in Death To The Daleks, which was just released on DVD in North America last week. Join @vortexglenn, @vortexshaun, @VortexKeith and @travelvortex on twitter for the live commentary, and look for the #FridayNightWho and #DeathToTheDaleks hashtags. We push play at midnight, CDT!

Scheduling Shada (and other things)

As we enter into July, a few updates on the vortex schedule for those who like to follow along at home…

Friday Night Who on 7/6 will be eleventh Doctor Matt Smith fighting the weeping angels in the two part “The Time Of Angels” & “Flesh And Stone”.

Since we’ve already reviewed those stories, Traveling The Vortex #80 will cover all things Shada: Shada The Book, Shada The VHS Reconstruction, Shada The Animated Story, Shada The Flash Animation, Shada The Big Finish, Shada The Flame Thrower! (The kids love this one)…

Two new DVDs release on the tenth of July. We’ll cover both of them:  On 7/13 Friday Night Who covers second Doctor Patrick Troughton in “The Krotons”.  Our show that week (#81) sees our reviews of “The Krotons” and Big Finish #4, “Land Of The Dead”.

And then the following week we’ll cover the second release for July. FNW on 7/20 is “Death To The Daleks” with third Doctor Jon Pertwee and Sarah Jane.

Episode #82 becomes another Dalek archive, with reviews of “Death To The Daleks” and two Big Finish audio adventures, #11 “The Apocalypse Element” and #15 “The Mutant Phase”.

We round out july with a return of some fourth Doctor to our plates, as Friday Night Who on 7/27 is “The Horns Of Nimon” with Tom Baker and Romana II.

TTV #83 is a Nimon archive, with our reviews of “The Horns Of Nimon” and Big Finish #30, “Seasons Of Fear” featuring eighth Doctor Paul McGann.

And in August? more Big Finish audios, more Book Reviews, and in celebration of Keith and Sarah’s wedding, a K9 Companion Archive!  As always, thanks for staying with us and we’ll see you in the vortex!
