Schedule: Impossible

Good morning, Mr. Phelps. As promised, here’s the schedule leading up to the start of Series 9. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to use this road map to follow along at home.

Friday Night Who is our weekly watch along. We do a different episode every Friday night at midnight and tweet along to the fun, using the hashtag #FridayNightWho. On 8/14, join us for the re-appearance of Donna in the 10th Doctor episode, “Partners In Crime”.

Our podcast episode #242 will cover the exciting events on Titan Doctor Who Comics Day! We’ll also cover the next few issues of the 10th (#10), 11th (#12-15) and 12th Doctor (#6-10) arcs to get caught up… as well as the first issue of the Paul Cornell scripted “Four Doctors” which releases THIS WEEK!

William Hartnell makes a return appearance to Friday Night Who on 8/21 in “The Aztecs”.

Since we’ve already reviewed that one, TTV #243 takes us back to Big Finish, with the sixth Doctor and Evelyn audios #60 “Medicinal Purposes” and #78 “Pier Pressure”.

FNW on 8/28 begins the end of Jon Pertwee with “Planet Of The Spiders”. This is another one that is currently unavailable on DVD, so some of you may have difficulty finding it. Our apologies, though it does appear to be available on DailyMotion and Hulu. Because it’s a long (six parter) we’re only doing the first three this night.

TTV #244 brings more Big Finish (we’re knocking a few of them out since we will have a long spell during series 9 where we AREN’T reviewing audio stories.) This time out is the fifth Doctor and Turlough in #76 “Singularity”, then picking up the next Peri and Erimim adventure in #71 “The Council Of Nicaea”.

FNW 9/4 finishes off “Planet Of The Spiders” with parts 4-6.

TTV #245 will have our review of “Planet Of The Spiders”.

FNW 9/11 we’ll do the finale of series 8, “Dark Water” / “Death In Heaven”.

And TTV #246 will have our final round of Big Finish for a while closes out the first season of the 8th Doctor Adventures: #7 & #8 “Human Resources Part 1 & 2”

Friday Night Who will happen at a special time on 9/18 as we do “The Rescue” with William Hartnell, coming to you live from Topeka’s Geek Expo, TOPCON! We’ll let you in on more details as we get them with our schedule for the con. Alas, this is another one currently in the video vault, but again available on DailyMotion and Hulu.

and rounding out things with episode #247, we’ll cover the fun of TopCon and have our thoughts on the first episode of series 9, “The Magician’s Apprentice”!

Beyond that? Well if you or any of your team are captured or killed, we will disavow all knowledge of these proceedings. Good luck. This schedule will self destruct in 5 seconds…

Episode 201 – Guess Who’s Back

TTV-Logo-1400-150x150In this week’s show we review the penultimate episode of Series 8 of Doctor Who, Dark Water. We’ll give our impressions on the next to last installment of the series, and what we thought of the big reveal at the end.

Also, not much in news this week, but we do have our reactions to a little news on the home front as far as a Doctor Who convention coming to the midwest.

And of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!

Schedule Update To Finish Out 2014

And as promised on last week’s podcast, here’s the schedule to finish out the wild ride that has been 2014!

For Friday Night Who TONIGHT on Halloween, we get our Cyberman on, with the first four parts of  “The Invasion” with Patrick Troughton.

Which should be the perfect lead in to this week’s TTV #201 to discuss “Dark Water”.

FNW 11/7 – “The Invasion” Part 5-8

To finish off Capaldi’s first season, TTV #202 takes a look at “Death In Heaven”.

Colin Baker returns to FNW on 11/14 in “Timelash”.

And a special treat for Traveling The Vortex #203. It’s a Companion Archive! Who for? Why everybody’s favorite shapeshifting Penguin, Frobisher! We’ll be discussing Big Finish #14 “The Holy Terror” and the Big Finish Special episode “The Maltese Penguin”.

FNW 11/21 is “Paradise Towers” with 7th Doctor Sylvester McCoy.

EDIT – As Glenn mentioned on the show last week and this, we are adding a few comic elements to the episode in order to do a “mini” adversary archive for the Quarks. If you can find them, you may wish to consult these for additional reference:

(Invasion of the Quarks, The Killer Wasps, The Jungle Of Doom, Martha The Mechanical Housemaid, The Duelist, Death Race, The Fires Down Below, Happy Deathday)

TTV #204 will have our reviews of “Paradise Towers”, and Big Finish Audio #46 “Flip Flop”.

Thanksgiving weekend brings us  Chicago Tardis! And while we still have yet to manage to organize plans to get the three of us up there (We’re working on it) we ARE watching “The Robots Of Death” for Friday Night Who this week.

Episode #205 is full of Fun and Games. We will have YOUR reports from Chicago Tardis (if anyone is going, PLEASE let us know!) We’ll touch on Titan Comic’s 12th Doctor Premier issue, and spend the rest of the time discussing the Doctor Who tie-ins: Risk & Yahtzee. Oh, and a special treat (if all goes well) from the folks over at Tiny Rebel Games in regards to Doctor Who Legacy.

FNW 12/5 – “Black Orchid”

TTV #206 – and a pair of Peter Davison audios Big Finish #41 “Nekromanteia”, and #56 “The Axis Of Insanity”.

I’m really looking forward to returning to this Jon Pertwee story for Friday Night Who on 12/12, “Frontier In Space”. It’s a long one, so we’ll do the first three parts. 1-3

TTV #207 – We’ll touch base with Titan Comic’s 10th and 11th Doctors story arcs, and revisit Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor and Charlie Pollard in Big Finish Audio #103 “The Girl Who Never Was”.

FNW 12/19 – “Frontier In Space” Part 4-6.

Earlier this year we started reviewing last year’s 50th Anniversary E Book Series, and got a little side tracked once series 8 came on.  Time to rectify that in Traveling The Vortex #208, as we’ll review the final four books in the series: E Book 9: “The Beast Of Babylon”, E Book 10: “The Mystery Of The Haunted Cottage”, E Book 11: “Nothing O’Clock”, E Book 12: “Lights Out”.

Our last FNW in December (12/26) is the David Tennant Christmas special “The Next Doctor”.

And our last show of 2014, TTV #209 will cover all the glory that is this years (still untitled as of this posting) Peter Capaldi Christmas Special.

Which takes us all the way up to 2015. Without sounding the spoiler horn, I can only say the new year holds a lot of potential so far. More details to come!

This Schedule Takes Us Into Darkness

As this is posted it’s Easter Saturday! Also know as August 23rd, the triumphant day that the 12th Doctor in the form of Peter Capaldi makes his fully fledged debut. So you know in Episode 191 we will be discussing Deep Breath and our initial reaction to the newest incarnation.

But you already knew that if you’re a listener to the show. And by deductive logic you also know what the next 12 episodes of the podcast will be about. But what about Friday Night Who? The 3 of us (but mostly Shaun) have scoured the internet (without spoiling ourselves too much) to try our best to match up some previous stories with what’s happening in Series 8. Being as we don’t have official synopsis for all the episodes some may be way off base, but hey we tried. By now if you haven’t already skipped forward to see what’s coming up are wanting to see what we have planned. So without further ado…the Vortex schedule without our reasoning…and WITH episode titles if you find that sort of thing spoilers.

For Friday Night Who on August 29th  we will watch the Sixth Doctor story “Revelation of the Daleks” starring Colin Baker.

For Episode #192 of the podcast we will be discussing the second episode of series 8, “Into the Dalek”.

The first Friday Night Who in September brings us to the Fourth Doctor’s era in the middle of the Key to Time series, with “The Androids of Tara” starring Tom Baker.

The following podcast, episode #193 will have us discussing the 3rd episode of the season, “Robots of Sherwood”.

The 12th of September we will jump forward to the Ninth Doctor’s era with “The Unquiet Dead” staring Christopher Eccelston.

Episode #194 will see us reviewing episode 4….”Listen”.

Friday Night Who for September 19th brings us to a story where we first meet someone else from the Doctor’s home planet in “The Time Meddler” staring the First Doctor William Hartnell.

Episode 5, “Time Heist” of Series 8 brings us to Episode #195 of the podcast.

The last Friday Night Who in September  brings a clash of “new” Who and “classic” Who in the Tenth Doctor story “School Reunion” staring David Tennant and the much loved and missed Elisabeth Sladen on the 26th.

Episode #196 of the podcast will be dedicated to the 6th episode of series 8…”The Caretaker”. Hard to believe we’re now halfway through the season.

We start out October Friday Night Whos with “Planet of Fire” on the 3rd starring Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor.

The second half of the season starts off with what looks like a bang in an episode titled “Kill the Moon” and we’ll discuss the moral implications of killing a non-sentient hunk of rock (or you know just review it) in episode #197 of the podcast.

The 10th of October brings us our first repeat Doctor for Friday Night Who so far this season with one of Glenn’s favorites “The Pyramids of Mars” starring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor.

Episode #198 of the podcast has us reviewing episode 8 of the season “Mummy on the Orient Express”

Brittany will be happy that the Third Doctor get’s his go during Friday Night Who on October 17th in “Carnival of Monsters”

And we will discuss episode 9 “Flatline” on podcast #199…holy crap we’re about to hit a milestone!

Matt Smith makes his return to Friday Night Who since we started this season in “The Doctor, the Widow & the Wardrobe” on October 24th.

Let’s hope Episode 10, “In the Forest of the Night” is a good one, because that’s what we’re discussing in our 200th episode of the podcast!!! A Major epiversary!!! Thanks to everyone who’s listened and kept us going to 200 episodes. You all are wonderful people!

Our Halloween Friday Night Who won’t be as scary as it normally would be…but if you don’t own it, the cost could scare your wallet…we start the first 4 episodes of “the Invasion” starring Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor.

This is it folks…the 2 part season finale! Episode #201 will have us discussing the first part…”Dark Water”.

We start November by finishing up “The Invasion” parts 5-8 on the 7th.

And we end the season on episode #202 discussing “Death in Heaven” and likely the season as a whole.

As for what’s ahead for the end of the year…well you know we have some catching up to do on the Puffin EBooks and whatever else Shaun has up his sleeve.
