Friday Night Who 9/6

The LodgerTonight we begin our 11 weeks for 11 Doctors countdown with the Craig Duo-logy, “The Lodger” and “Closing Time” staring Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor!

Join @TravelVortex, @VortexKeith, @VortexShaun, & @VortexGlenn as we press play on “The Lodger” at Midnight CDT!

Keep an eye out for the hashtags #FridayNightWho #TheLodger & #ClosingTime and watch your feed for the start time of “Closing Time” as we will take an approximately 5 minute break to prep the next episode.

To The Schedule, And Beyond!

(UPDATED: We decided to make the countdown more accurate, it was prudent to flip-flop the FNW dates for “Scream of the Shalka” and the 9th Doctor 2-parter)

Without preamble or adeau, here’s the next batch of scheduling! (Isnt this statement in and of itself a preamble?)(UPDATED: Or perhaps by adding the UPDATED line, we have created ANOTHER preamble)

Friday Night Who this week on 8/30 is the final three parts of the third Doctor story “The Green Death” (Parts 4-6)

On Traveling The Vortex #140 we’ll discuss “The Green Death” and probably quite a little bit of Jo Grant as well, seeing how we just revisited her in The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Then we start a real treat, 11 weeks for 11 Doctors! (With a twist – we decided since a large number of the episodes that were voted on in our polls to be “MOST” representative were also the ones shown on BBC America, we would just make up a list of our own.  We’re doing it Casey Kasem style, counting down backwards. So starting things off for us on Friday Night Who on 9/6 is the Craig Duo-logy, “The Lodger” and “Closing Time” staring Matt Smith.

The Eighth Doctor celebrations kick off in episode #141 as we cover Big Finish #72 “Terror Firma” and the eighth Doctor Revisited.

Doctor Number 10 on our countdown for FNW 9/13 is the two part “Daleks In Manhattan” / “Evolution Of The Daleks”

TTV #142 has our reviews of the Big Finish/Audio Go Destiny Of The Doctor 8: “Enemy Aliens” , the IDW Prisoners Of Time issue 8, and our 50th Anniversary Discussion of The 8th Doctor Era.

And Friday Night Who on 9/20 will be a proper 9th Doctor story, with Christopher Eccleston in the two parter “Bad Wolf” and “The Parting Of The Ways”.

We’re down a man for our show this week as Shaun misses his first recording of Traveling The Vortex by being abroad visiting his brother in Hawaii.  Keith and Glenn will trudge on without him in episode #143 with a set of book reviews, still celebrating the eighth Doctor.  Keith will review  Trading Futures by Lance Parkin and Glenn will talk about Earthworld by Jacqueline Rayner.

And a special surprise, for Friday Night Who on 9/27. In keeping with the idea of a “secret Doctor” who falls somewhere between 9 & 8, we present… “Scream Of The Shalka” which releases on DVD in North America the previous week.

More to come as we get it finalized!

Episode 39 – Stormageddon: Dark Lord of All

Here we are at the penultimate episode of Series Six. It’s been a good time, with lots of ups and downs this season, and this week’s episode in no exception. Here’s our review of Closing Time with the return of James Corden reprising his role as Craig Owens. But, first a review of the fifth story in the key to time, The Power of Kroll. Plus as usual, your feedback!

The Key To Scheduling

* Spoilers below if you dont want to see episode titles from the new series!

Home work assignments for those of you following along, the next several weeks will find us deeply entrenched in Tom Baker and Matt Smith, as the continuation of Series Six starts this week with six new episodes, and our Friday Night Who’s will be the six segments of the Key To Time.  The show’s review schedule shakes down like this:

On 8/26 Friday Night Who kicks off with the first story of The Key To Time with “The Ribos Operation”.

Traveling The Vortex #35 will see us reviewing “The Ribos Operation” and S6x08,  “Let’s Kill Hitler”.

Friday Night Who 9/2 is “The Pirate Planet”

Episode #36 covers “The Pirate Planet” and “Night Terrors” (S6x09).

Then on 9/9, one of my favorite episodes, “The Stones Of Blood”.

TTV #37 will be our reviews of “The Stones Of Blood” and S6x10, “The Girl Who Waited”

The week of 9/16 Friday Night Who is “The Androids Of Tara”

And then we’ll review “The Androids Of Tara” and the Star Trek sounding “The God Complex” (S6x11) on episdode #38.

FNW 9/23 – is the penultimate (see Keith, I DO listen to you!) Key To Time story, “The Power Of Kroll”

Episode #39 of the podcast is “The Power Of Kroll” and “Closing Time” (S6x12)

And finally we wrap up the Key To Time saga on 9/30 Friday Night Who with “The Armageddon Factor”

Traveling The Vortex episode #40 (40?!? Seriously?!?  WOW!) will be our reviews of “The Armageddon Factor” and the final episode of series six, “The Wedding Of River Song” (S6x13)

And then a special treat.  It occures to us that our novice Keith will have watched the LAST episode of Doctor Who ever made (or at least the most current), we should go back and bookend it with the FIRST episode of Doctor Who ever made.  So, for Friday Night Who on 10/7, we’ll be watching “An Unearthly Child” with William Hartnell.

Our review for that week (episode #41) will cover The Begningings DVD box set, with “An Unearthly Child” and “Edge Of Destruction” (although I imagine we’ll gloss over or ignore “The Daleks” since we’ve already reviewed that monster story!)

And speaking of Monsters, while I have a tenetive plan mapped out for where we go after this, does anybody want to do some Halloween themed Friday Night Whos at that time?  Sound off!
