Side Trip 27 – Chicago TARDIS Report

Last month, long-time listener, friend-of-the-show and now correspondent Kirk Chritton and his family went to Chicago TARDIS over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. And Kirk was kind enough to file this report for us, and our listeners about their experiences at the convention.

Our apologies to Kirk for the delay in getting this out on the feed. But, hopefully this will be just the first of several surprises and specials leading up to Christmas.

Enjoy!

Episode 241 – Bats in the Belfry

TTV LOGO NEWIn this week’s episode we take a little break from reviews to discuss Shaun and Keith’s trips to Kansas City Comic Con which in its first year featured none other than the Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker. Both recount their visits to KC and experiences at the con.

Also, lots of other convention announcements to get to, including LI Who, Chicago TARDIS, Gallifrey One, and our local convention, TopCon.

Plus, we talk about the news of the week, including an unsettling rumor about the possible fate of Doctor Who next year, and we speculate on what it could mean if it’s true.

And, of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!

Convention Season 2015

Time_Eddy_with_stars_3_1Time Eddy is shaping up to be the biggest Doctor Who con in the midwest. It lands in Wichita October 2-4 for it’s first year with a killer line up of guests including actors Colin Baker (6th Doctor), Nicola Bryant (Peri), Katy Manning (Jo Grant), Ellis George (Courtney), Peter Purves (Steven), Deborah Watling (Victoria), Daphne Ashbrook (Grace), and not one but two script editors, Victor Pemberton and Andrew Cartmel. In addition toPatrick Troughton look-a-like and 2nd Doctor impersonator Bill Breuer, we’ll be there all three days as guests and panelists. http://www.kansasdoctorwho.com

Other

Again in Topeka, we are still negotiating our appearance at the Slash And Bash Sci-Fi and Horror Film Festival September 25 & 26, Wizard World Tulsa is in Oklahoma October 23-25, and there’s an outside chance Mel and Shaun will sneak down for a day in an unofficial capacity one of those days, And of course, Chicago Tardis lines up November 27-29, which is once again a goal for the boys, but not set in stone yet. We’ll keep you posted as these cons approach.

Hope to see you at one of these events!

Scheduling… Epiversary To Christmas

For those of you following along at home, here’s the vortex schedule updated all the way to Christmas…

Our Friday Night Who this week is first Doctor William Hartnell in “The Web Planet”.

Our show this week (#99) will include our reviews of The Web Planet and Big Finish audio adventure #5 “The Fearmonger”.

Thanksgiving weekend is a time to give thanks, a time to celebrate with family, and… Chicago Tardis!  While we unfortunately won’t be in attendence this year, we welcome reports from anyone who does go.  Our Black Friday edition of Friday Night Who (11/23) is tenth Doctor David Tennant in “Smith And Jones”.

And since we’ve already reviewed the episode, our 100th Epiversary will be dedicated to all sorts of other things!  It’s a massive feedback show, so if you have been thinking about writing us, nows the time!  We’d love to hear from all our listeners!  Other things on tap include CHICAGO TARDIS! CYBERMEN! DALEKS! DINOSAURS ON A SPACESHIP! SONIC SCREWDRIVER! TIME LORDS! BEST OF LISTS! BIG FINIGH! STORMAGEDDON, DARK LORD OF ALL! FLYING MONKEYS! (Okay, I can’t guarantee the monkeys will show, but still…) HUGE THINGS AFOOT!

FNW on 11/30 features fourth Doctor Tom Baker in one of my favorite stories, “The Invisible Enemy”.

Our show that week (TTV #101) is our reviews of season three of The Sarah Jane Adventures.  (Better start watching now…)

The first Friday Night Who of Dec (12/7) is another Tom Baker, “The Sunmakers”.

Traveling The Vortex #102 is the long delayed Companion Archive: K9! (Only been promising Keith this for… well, forever).  We’ll review both “The Invisible Enemy” and “The Sunmakers”.

Glenn leaves us for his Disney World vacation this week, so FNW on 12/14 is the two part “The Pandorica Opens” / “The Big Bang” starring eleventh Doctor Matt Smith.

Since Glenn will be gone, It will be just Keith and I for TTV #103, so here come some more Book Reviews!  Keith will be discussing Touched By An Angel (11th Doctor) by Jonathon Morris while I tackle Apollo 23 (11th Doctor) by Justin Richards.

12/21 our Friday Night Who is by request! Third Doctor Jon Pertwee in “The Time Monster”.

Next up a treat, Adversary Archive: The Master II for traveling the vortex show #104, as we review “The Time Monster” and Big Finish #21 “Dust Breeding”.

We’ll be celebrating Christmas just a smidge late, with Friday Night Who happening on 12/28 with tenth Doctor David Tennant in “The Christmas Invasion”.

And then our show that week will be covering the brand new (as of yet still unnamed) Matt Smith eleventh Doctor Christmas Special!

Which brings us all the way up to 2013.  I’d like to divulge whats coming next year, but the truth is, not even I know that yet! Stay tuned true believers!

Chicago Tardis Update 10/12/11

Chicago Tardis has updated it’s guest list once again, this time it looks like Alex Kingston’s appearance has fallen through (she’s no longer listed on the site, anway) BUT they have added two classic companions, a match set with 5th Doctor Peter Davison!  Janet Fielding and Sarah Sutton (Tegan and Nyssa) are slated to join the festivities, for more info, go to their website… www.chicagotardis.com

Loose Threads: Around The Vortex 9/26/11

* In addition to Peter Davison and Alex Kingston (the 5th Doctor and River Song respectively), Chicago Tardis is firming up their guest list for the upcoming November convention.  Big names from Big Finish include Jason Haigh-Ellery (producer), Nicholas Briggs (writer/director and voice of the Daleks/Cybermen), Lisa Bowerman, (Bernice Summerfield) and the new 7th Doctor companion Beth Chalmers.

Other writers/editors/publisher include Ben Aaronovitch (7th Doctor era stories), Dr. Arnold T. Blumberg (Howe’s Transendental Toybox), Graeme Burk and Robert Smith (Time Unincorporated and the forthcoming Who Is The Doctor), Benjamin Cook (A Writer’s Tale, Christa Dickson and Lars Pearson (Mad Norwegian Press) and Tony Lee (IDW Doctor Who comics).  Their website promises more to come…

http://www.chicagotardis.com/

One change to the program is Toby Hadoke (Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf) who will be unable to attend.

* Doctor Who Magazine recently announced the show will return for another 13 episode season seven in 2012, but as many of us suspected, it WILL be broken into two parts, and it WILL start in the fall of 2012.  So once the current season six wraps next week with “The Wedding Of River Song”, we’ll get a Christmas special, and then no new who for about 8 months.  I feel withdrawals kicking in already.

* And lastly, Matt Smith is chomping at the bit to get to the 50th anniversary special, and he’d love for it to be in 3D.  “I love making Doctor Who, and I get to be part of that 50th year which they’ll do something mental for,” he tells Bang Showbiz.  “You know it will be brilliant.  I’m interested in all the 3D stuff.  If it could be filmed for 3D TV that would be fun, especially with Doctor Who, but it’s very expensive.  I don’t know how they’d do it.”

I imagine something with void stuff.
