In this week’s podcast we examine two stories. First we look at episodes 1 and 2 of the newly released The Power of the Daleks (animated). We give our impressions of the story and what we think of the treatment so far.
And then, on to Big Finish The 4th Doctor Adventures S2: #4 The Justice Of Jalxar, We pick up where we left off in the adventures featuring the Fourth Doctor and Romana. Hear what we thought of this one.
Sorry for the delay, but our editor took ill earlier this week. But, finally here is this week’s podcast, as promised. Hopefully you didn’t think we just took yet another week off.
This time we feature a Companion Archive on the oft forgotten Third Doctor companion, Liz Shaw played by Caroline John. First, we look at the Big Finish Companion Chronicle, The Blue Tooth from season one. Then, a retrospective on Liz’s time on the TV series.
Time Eddy II weekend is upon us! So here’s an update on things to come.
What better way to celebrate the fifth Doctor Peter Davison’s appearance at Time Eddy than to watch “The Five Doctors” for our Friday Night Who selection that weekend on 10-14?
Well, actually, there is a better way to celebrate his appearance at Time Eddy II. With a Stuffed-to-the-gills celebration of our 300 episode recounting our con adventures and MANY surprises.
Friday Night Who on 10/21 is “The Caretaker” with Peter Capaldi
TTV #301 is a Companion Archive, with a twist. We’ll be discussing Coal Hill School! Talking the Class premiere, and reviewing the comic The Monsters Of Coal Hill, and the short story Nothing at the End of the Lane.

It was with a mixture of shocked surprise and gratitude that when compiling the next pieces of the schedule we realized we were coming up on the big 300th episode here at Traveling The Vortex. As always, we remain hopefully humble and slightly bemused that people are still listening, and seem to like what we’re doing, so again, we thank you! Keeping in that spirit, we wanted to do something a little special for the “epiversary” (even if it meant bending the rules just a little bit). So lets dive into the upcoming madness…
Our weekly Doctor Who watch party Friday Night Who continues on 8/19 with the David Tennant episode “Gridlock”. A reminder everyone is welcome to join in on Twitter, look for the #FridayNightWho hashtags, we push play at midnight.

A change in what was scheduled before, as FNW on 9/2 is now “The Silurians” (Or Doctor Who and the Silurians, if we must.) This is a long one, so we’ll split it up and do the first four parts this week.
No show this week, but we don’t want to leave you high and dry, so instead we’ll bring you some fun courtesy of Candy Jar Books and Lethbridge-Stewart: The Showstoppers author Jonathan Cooper.

7/22 happens to be the exact 50th Anniversary of the second non-cannonical, alternate universe, cringe at the spelling but still fun “Daleks Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D.” with Peter Cushing, so what better way to celebrate than to watch the film for this week’s Friday Night Who? …which sets up an Adversary Archive for The Macra in TTV #295. But we’ll be pulling double duty with this episode, also looking at the Lost In Time story “The Macra Terror”. Sadly NONE of the episodes of this 2nd Doctor tale still exist, so we’ll be reviewing it via the Target Novelization and the Audio Recon from the folks at Loose Cannons.
Beyond that? Top Con and Time Eddy loom on the horizon, along with a certain epiversary. Stay tuned, true believers!

Plus, some news out of Big Finish, convention updates, and a public service announcement that out lawyers are forcing us to put into the show.
Ian Potter and Wendy Padbury at the recording of The British Invasion
Blogtorwho.com is reporting that Big Finish has announced that Wendy Padbury will reprise her role as Zoe Heriot for two upcoming releases. Padbury originally starred alongside Patrick Troughton’s Doctor between 1968 and 1969, and has returned as Zoe on audio a number of times since 2007.
Padbury has recently recorded one of Big Finish’s monthly Short Trips Doctor Who stories – The British Invasion by Ian Potter.
These half-hour adventures are only available via download from the Big Finish website for £2.99 each.
The British Invasion is described as follows:
A huge metal dome sits by the side of the river Thames. Within it is a device that might change the entire future of humanity. The Doctor, Zoe and Jamie embark on a small act of kindness but the TARDIS seems oddly unwilling to help. It’s as if it knows the truth. There is something waiting here, something adaptable and cunning, gathering its strength to conquer the stars…
In this week’s podcast we travel with the Fifth Doctor, Tegan and Turlough for the Season 21 story, Frontios. We give our reviews of the story with a fairly fresh perspective since only one of us had previously seen this one and it was so long ago.
Plus some big news coming from Candy Jar Books with the announcement of a new collection for the Lethbridge-Stewart line.
Also, we share some big Big Finish news just announced.
