Schedule Resolutions We Intend To Keep (…but may not)

  • UPDATE 1/4/16:

As we wind down 2015 and turn our eyes firmly forward to 2016, we present the upcoming schedule:

Friday Night Who on 1/1 is the swan song episode for Ian & Barbara. We’ll break “The Chase” into two weeks, parts 1-3 of the Hartnell episode are first

TTV #262 sees a return to Big Finish with mainline story #65 “The Juggernauts”, and we’ll offer up our opinions on the Titan Comics 9th Doctor mini-series event (issues #1-5)

FNW 1/8 concludes “The Chase” with parts 4-6.

  • And then we’ve expanded TTV #263 into a full blown Adversary Archive: The Mechanoids! We’ll review “The Chase”, (Goodbye, Ian and Barbara) cover some early Who comics with the stories The World That Waits (Comic – The Dalek World Annual), The Eye Of War & Impass (Comic – The Dalek Chronicles), and the short story Birth Of A Legend by Justin Richards (Doctor Who Files: The Cult Of Skaro).

Sylvester McCoy returns to FNW on 1/15 in “Delta And The Bannermen”.

TTV #264 sees the return of last year’s “Beyond The Doctor” feature. For Sylvester McCoy we’ll be discussing his turn in the 1979 Dracula staring Frank Langella.

We had a request for some “funky Pertwee”, so FNW 1/22 is “Claws Of Axos”.

Since we’ve already tackled that story, it frees up TTV #265 for some Candy Jar Books fun. We’ll talk the Lethbridge-Stewart Short The Cult Of The Grinning Man, have our “Spoiler filled” Book Review of Lethbridge-Stewart: Beast Of Fang Rock by Andy Frankham-Allen, and catch up with the 10th Doctor in Titan Comics #11-15 and we may have a special treat with a special guest on the show this week.

FNW 1/29 – is the animated “Scream Of The Shalka”.

TTV #266 starts season 2 of Big Finish 8th Doctor Adventures: #1 Dead London, #2 Max Warp

Been a while for one of our favs, FNW 2/5 is “Doctor Who: The Movie”.

TTV #267 sees us go “Beyond The Doctor” with 8th Doctor Paul McGann… AND 9th Doctor (Alternate) Richard E. Grant in Withnail & I.

This one could be a bit of a bother. We are launching a new series of discussions on Lost episodes, and starting with William Hartnell’s “The Crusade”. Obviously, with missing episodes, there will be some logistical challenges for Friday Night Who on 2/12, but we’re confident we can square that away. Or at the very least muddle through.

TTV #268 is the first in our “Lost In Time” discussions over “The Crusade”, the Reconstruction and Novelization.

After that? Well Gally looms for those who can go. Not sure on our end yet, but we are ever hopeful. And of course we’ll have our Book review over January’s Goodreads title, and a few other surprises…

Stay tuned, true believers! And thanks for all your support!

2015 Scheduling

As promised, heres a look at the finalized schedule going into the new year!

Our last Friday Night Who tweet along for 2014 is on 12/26, the Christmas Story “The Next Doctor” with David Tennant.

And our last show review for the year will be all about the newest Christmas Special, “Last Christmas” with Peter Capaldi.

HAPPY 2015!

We’re a little late to celebrate the year of the snake, but then again, time has always been a little Wibbly Wobbly round here. So our first Friday Night Who of the new year on 1/2 is the fifth Doctor story, “Kinda”.

We review a pair of fifth Doctor audio stories in TTV #210, Big Finish #44 “Creatures Of Beauty”, and #66 “The Game”.

Then on 1/9 we present the second Mara story for FNW, “Snakedance”.

TTV #211 is an Adversary Archive on The Mara, and we’ll tackle both stories “Kinda” and “Snakedance”.

FNW 1/16 is Matt Smith in “Victory Of The Daleks”

And a quick turnaround for more Paul McGann audio in TTV #212, as we listen and start the Big Finish 8th Doctor Adventures #1, “Blood Of The Daleks” and #2 “Blood Of The Daleks Part 2”.

FNW 1/23 is one we’ve been trying to get to for a while, William Hartnell in “The Sensorites” Part 1-3.

Here we change it up a bit. Remember two years ago when we did a specific Doctor breakdown for our the run up to the 50th anniversary? And last year we did the E-Books each month to continue that celebration? Well we’re doing it again this year, with a twist! TTV #213 is something we’re calling Beyond The Doctor: William Hartnell. Instead of reviewing an episode, we’ll be discussing his role in the motion picture Carry On Sergeant! We hope to do a different staring roll for each Doctor each month all year long!

We’ll finish “The Sensorites” Part 4-6 on 1/30 for Friday Night Who.

and then TTV #214 has our reviews of “The Sensorites” as well as Big Finish #85 “Red”.

After that? Well it’s the start of Con season for us, with Gallifrey One and Kansas City Planet Comicion looming on the horizon, but we’ll have something hammered out for you all by then! As always thanks for listening and following along, and we’ll see you in the vortex…

May The Schedule Be With You

Here’s a schedule update to carry us forward into June:

Friday Night Who on 4/25 is the recently discovered (and just released on DVD in North America) Patrick Troughton story “The Web Of Fear” Parts 1-3.

Show #174 finishes our review of  “Torchwood: Miracle Day” (episodes 6-10), as well as an overview of the entire season, and the web comic “Web Of Lies”.

FNW on 5/2 we complete “The Web Of Fear” Parts 4-6.

To celebrate our epivesrary in episode #175,  we present an Adversary Archive on The Great Intelligence.  At least the first part. We’ll be covering it’s appearances in “The Snowmen”, “The Abominable Snowmen* “, and have our review of “The Web Of Fear”.

* NOTE – “The Abominable Snowmen” is not available other than as recon or book format, as it has unfortunately not been recovered. You may have some difficulty finding it to join in our review.

FNW 5/9 is a taste of Matt Smith in “The Bells Of St. John”.

We continue our Adversary Archive on The Great Intelligence with Part 2 in Traveling The Vortex #176.  We’ll be covering the villains appearances in “Downtime* “, “The Bells Of St. John”, and “The Name Of The Doctor”.

* NOTE – “Downtime” is a fan produced spin off film that had a VHS release, and was also part of the Virgin New Adventures line of books. As such, you may have some difficulty finding it to join in our review.

May is the fifth Doctor’s month, so for Friday Night Who on 5/16 we’ll watching “Four To Doomsday”.

TTV #177 has our reviews of “Four To Doomsday” and E Book 5 “Tip Of The Tongue”.

Ninth Doctor Christopher Eccleston comes back to Friday Night Who on 5/23 in “Dalek”.

Which sets up episode #178 – The Adaptation Argument. We’ll be comparing and contrasting the supposed connections between Big Finish #40 “Jubilee” vs “Dalek”.

More fifth Doctor on 5/30 for FNW as we (finally! Chrissy shouts) watch “Caves Of Androzani”.

Our entire show for #179 is dedicated to the masterpiece that is “Caves Of Androzani”, and weather or not its worthy of that status.

And as we wind into June, 6/6 brings us the next story, Colin Baker’s debut in “The Twin Dilemma”.

June is the sixth Doctor’s month, so Traveling The Vortex #180 is all about him. We’ll review “The Twin Dilemma” and E Book 6  “Something Borrowed”.

After that?  Not a clue yet. But we’ll keep you posted.

Coming Soon To The Vortex…

Recovering from Gallifrey One (and I do mean recovering. I think someone gave me the funk, but I’m hopeful it’s just sinuses.) and I thought maybe I should update all of you on the schedule, cause there’s a few big things on the horizon, and I know how some of you like to do your homework for our shows…

We’ll record episode #60 tonight, a full report of my experiences at Gally.  Mel will join us in studio, and you can look for this on the feeds tomorrow.

This Friday, 2/24, we’ll complete the Black Guardian Trilogy on Friday Night Who with “Enlightenment”.

Traveling The Vortex episode #61 will be our complete recap of the Black Guardian Trilogy, as we talk about all three Peter Davison episodes, “Mawdryn Undead”, “Terminus” and “Enlightenment”.

Barring such a long winded Gally breakdown that we go two episodes (which I don’t see happening. lol) the following week 3/2 on Friday Night Who, we’ll watch Colin Baker in “Attack Of The Cybermen”

TTV #62 is a review of The Sarah Jane Adventures: Series 1.  This is only two weeks out, so you may want to start working your way through them now!

FNW on 3/9 is Sylvester McCoy’s Cyberman story, “Silver Nemesis”

News to keep Keith happy, TTV #63 will be our second Adversary Archive on the Cybermen, as we discuss “Attack Of The Cybermen” and “Silver Nemesis”.

Taking advantage of the new DVD releases this month, Friday Night Who on 3/16 is “The Face Of Evil” with Tom Baker. (This title releases earlier that week in North America, so we are right out of the gate here!)

Another homework heavy podcast here, as TTV #64 is our second Big Finish block with Paul McGann, covering the next three 8th Doctor stories – #19 Minuet In Hell, #28 Invaders From Mars, and #29 The Chimes Of Midnight

FNW on 3/23 is another new release for this month, “The Robots Of Death – Special Edition” again with Tom Baker.

Episode #65 is, believe it or not, only our second Companion Archive, this one on Leela, and covers the two new releases we’ll have just watched, “The Face Of Evil” and “The Robots Of Death”.

So that brings you up to speed.  As always, the schedule is subject to change.  And because I know some of you are dying to plan out even farther,  let me give you a hint…

Renegades…
