The BBC released a short behind the scenes conversation with Paul McGann
For those of you who did NOT catch the special in theaters (or somehow managed to leave before the credits had finished-do those people exist?) the BBC has posted the “Behind The Lens” feature that followed the presentation.
While the rest of Whoville catches their collective breaths after the 50th, here at Traveling The Vortex, we still have miles to go before we sleep.
First up is a surprise addition to the schedule, our impromptu “Who With Friends” will be doing “The Three Doctors” sometime this week, keep an eye on @VortexKeith twitter feed for details.
Officially, if you’re not all tuckered out from Thanksgiving turkey and Black Friday shopping, Friday Night Who on 11/29 will be “The Five Doctors (Special Edition)”.
Our show this week (TTV #153) covers the audio goodness of Big Finish with a detailed look at “The Light At The End”.
Join us in sending all our love to long ago. William Hartnell’s swan song “The Tenth Planet” is Friday Night Who 12/6.
That sets up TTV #154 to be Cybermen Archive IV, as we review “The Tenth Planet”, and Big Finish #34 “Spare Parts”.
FNW 12/13 brings us Christopher Eccelston in “The Long Game”.
Which sets up TTV #155 where we’ll cover the ending of IDW Prisoners Of Time comic with a look at issues 11 and 12. And since December is our month to celebrate the 11th Doctor… (or is it twelfth now? HA! Traveling The Vortex had it right all along!) we’ll discuss Doctor Who Revisited: the 11th Doctor.
Just prior to Christmas, on 12/20 Friday Night Who celebrates with “The Doctor, The Widow & The Wardrobe”.
We continue our 11th Doctor celebrations in TTV #156 with a look at Big Finish “Destiny Of The Doctor: The Time Machine”, and our retrospective 50th Anniversary Discussion over the 11th Doctor Era.
Friday Night Who heralds the arrival of Peter Capaldi on 12/27 with “The Fires Of Pompeii”.
And we round out the year with TTV #157 and our discussion of the 2013 Xmas Special, which if I know Moffat (and I do kids, oh yes, I do) will be called “Silent Night”.
And that brings us up to 2014, and our (gulp) third year of the podcast. As always we thank you, our listeners and fans for keeping us around, keeping us honest, keeping us humble… and sharing the love.

We’ll cover “The Daemons” in episode #150… and IDW Comic’s “Prisoners Of Time 10″ and holly cow, that’s a nice even number, so it’s time for another EPIVERSARY!
I know you’re all excited to hear our thoughts on the just recovered Troughton episodes, but it’ll have to wait just a bit longer. (Trust us, the suspense is killing us as well.) 11/15 Friday Night Who is “The Dominators”.
TTV #151 has us return to the 10th Doctor celebrations as we look at Doctor Who Revisited 10, and have our 50th Anniversary Discussion over the 10th Doctor Era.
Coming in at number one on the countdown (chronologically speaking), Friday Night Who on 11/22 takes us back to where it all began with “An Unearthly Child”.
And then the big one, #SaveTheDay for TTV #152 and our look at “The Day Of The Doctor (50th Anniversary Special)”
Assuming we are have not won the lottery and are not at Chicago Tardis this year, FNW on 11/29 will continue the multi-Doctor anniversary celebrations with “The Five Doctors”
We can’t contain all the anniversary celebrations in one episode so TTV #153 will be our thoughts on Big Finish’s Epic Story “The Light at the End”
We start December with the just released “The Tenth Planet” for FNW on 12/06.
And an announcement to cheer up Keith over the impending loss of Matt Smith, TTV #154 will be our Cybermen Archive IV! Covering “The Tenth Planet”, and at long last, Big Finish #34 “Spare Parts”.
That takes us slightly into December when we’ll begin our celebrations (or mourning) of the Eleventh Doctor era. Stay tuned, true believer!

We may not have a trailer for the 50th Anniversary special yet…but now we know the name and length of it along with other celebrations.
You know things are serious when David Tennant’s hair is flat. (Seriously…what’s up with that?)
The BBC says special will be called The Day of the Doctor and will run 75 minutes.
With special programmes planned across the BBC, the celebrations will peak on 23 November with the anniversary episode, revealed as The Day Of The Doctor. Starring Matt Smith, David Tennant and Jenna Coleman with Billie Piper and John Hurt, the special for BBC One has been confirmed as feature-length, with 75 minutes of adventure.
There will also be other specials including several BBC Two broadcasts including An Adventure In Space and Time.
BBC Two will broadcast a number of new commissions, focusing on telling the story behind the show. For one night only, Professor Brian Cox will take an audience of celebrity guests and members of the public on a journey into the wonderful universe of the Doctor, from the lecture hall of the Royal Institution of Great Britain (1×60 minutess). Drawing on the latest theories, as well as 200 years of scientific discoveries and the genius of Einstein, Brian tries to answer the classic questions raised by the Doctor: Can you really travel in time? Does extra-terrestrial life exist in our galaxy? And how do you build something as fantastical as the TARDIS?
In an hour-long special, BBC Two’s flagship arts programme The Culture Show presents Me, You And Doctor Who (1×60 minutes), with lifelong fan Matthew Sweet exploring the cultural significance of the BBC’s longest running TV drama, arguing that it’s one of the most important cultural artefacts of modern Britain. Put simply, Doctor Who matters. He’ll examine how the show has become a cultural force in its own right and tell the stories of some of the unsung cultural heroes, who pioneered its innovative music, design and storytelling.
BBC Two wraps up its coverage with the previously announced An Adventure In Space and Time (1×90 minutes), which will tell the story of the genesis of Doctor Who and the many personalities involved. Written by Mark Gatiss, the drama stars David Bradley (the Harry Potter films); Brian Cox (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Identity), Jessica Raine (Call The Midwife) and Sacha Dhawan (History Boys, Last Tango In Halifax).

I think we’ve got him reprogramed now, so here’s some upcoming goodies. Friday Night Who on 4/19 celebrates third Doctor Jon Pertwee in “The Time Warrior”.
Traveling The Vortex episode #121 finds us discussing the third Doctor Who Revisited special, Big Finish’s “Destiny Of The Doctor: Vengeance Of The Stones”, and new episode “Hide”.
On 4/26 we journey back to the first Doctor William Hartnell and the first TARDIS bound episode, “The Edge Of Destruction” for FNW.
We can’t wait for this week, as TTV #122 includes our 50th Anniversary Discussion of the 3rd Doctor Era, and our reviews of “Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS”.
A special treat for @WhovianMich’s birthday on Friday Night Who of 5/3, we’ll be watching her favorite fifth Doctor Peter Davison episode “Enlightenment”.
May starts our celebration of the fourth Doctor, starting with IDW’s Prisoners Of Time 4, and our thoughts on new series’ “The Crimson Horror”.
Some new material hits Friday Night Who on 5/10, with Tom Baker in “Revenge Of The Cybermen”
And then TTV #124 is our Cyberman Archive III with “Revenge Of The Cybermen” and Neil Gaimen’s “Nightmare in Silver” (formerly “The Last Cyberman”).
That should bring us right up to the finale of season 7, and as always, Grand Moff Steven is being tight lipped about it so we’ll wait to schedule that when we know just a bit more than we do now. Now, WHO-9000, can you open the pod bay doors please?
The BBC has confirmed that 9th Doctor actor Christopher Eccleston will not be appearing in the special planned for the show’s 50th Anniversary to air in November.
According to Digital Spy Eccleston was never attached to the special. The Daily Star had claimed he had agreed to star in the 50th, but pulled out as filming was beginning.
“Chris met with Steven Moffat a couple of times to talk about Steven’s plans for the Doctor Who 50th anniversary episode,” an official source said.
“After careful thought, Chris decided not to be in the episode. He wishes the team all the best.”
As reported last week, David Tennant, Bille Piper and John Hurt will join Matt Smith & Jenna Louise Coleman.
Also guest starring, Joanna Page (Gavin & Stacy). Several pictures of the first read through were released by the BBC.
Something that sneaked up on us this week is the IDW comic line being released specially for the 50th anniversary year of Doctor Who called Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time. The title is a yearlong celebration of Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary, featuring all 11 Doctors. Issue one releases today (January 30th) and features the First Doctor, Ian, Barbera, and Vicki.

From Doctor Who News.net, BBC has announced that David Bradley will play first Doctor William Hartnell in the upcoming docudrama An Adventure in Space and Time, detailing the events leading to the creation of Doctor Who. The one-off 90-minute drama is written by Doctor Who writer and actor Mark Gatiss, who will also act as executive producer alongside Steven Moffat and Caroline Skinner. Bradley is best known for playing Hogwarts caretaker Argus Filch in the HARRY POTTER films, but fans may also recognize him from his turn as the villain in season seven’s “Dinosaurs On A Spaceship”. He is also an established theatre actor.
BBC’s then Head of Drama Sydney Newman, credited with the creation of the show, will be portrayed by Shakespearean actor Brian Cox, who voiced the elder Ood in the 2009 Doctor Who episode “The End of Time”, and may be known to American audiences from his roles in X-MEN 2, MANHUNTER, TROY and THE BOURNE IDENTITY series.
Doctor Who‘s first producer, Verity Lambert, will be played by Call the Midwife star Jessica Raine, while the director of the first serial, Waris Hussein, will be played by Sacha Dhawan best known for appearances in The History Boys and Last Tango In Halifax.
