Oh, and Don’t Blink!

Happy Fourth Of July!

On this day in 1776, our forefathers kicked the English out of America for being… well, rather uncool.

One hundred and eighty six years later, the Brits apologized by creating Doctor Who!

Wishing all our friends and listeners on the US side of the pond a very happy Independence Day!

Tom Baker To Return To Doctor Who?

The past few weeks have been a veritable who’s who of actors being announced for guest star spots on the new season of Doctor Who.  David Warner (TIME BANDITS, TRON, STAR TREK VI, TITANIC), Liam Cunningham (FIRST KNIGHT, CLASH OF THE TITANS, Game Of Thrones), Dougray Scott (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2, ENIGMA), Ben Browder (Farscape, Stargate SG1) Michael McShane (ROBIN HOOD PRINCE OF THIEVES, CLERKS, SPAWN) and most recently Dame Diana Rigg (The Avengers, ON HER MAJESTIES SECRET SERVICE, Mystery!) and her daughter Rachael Stirling (SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, CENTURIAN).

And now, there’s rumors circulating that MAY be more than rumors, that Tom Baker will be returning to the show for the 50th anniversary.

Ordinarily we’d write it off as “yeah, right”, BUT STV’s website had a report saying:

“Former Time Lord Tom Baker will return to ‘Doctor Who’ to mark the show’s 50th anniversary.  The 78-year-old actor, who played The Doctor from 1974 to 1981 on BBC One’s iconic sci-fi drama, is being lined up to reprise his role in 2013.  A ‘Doctor Who’ insider told The Daily Express: ”It will be fitting to have Tom back to mark the 50 years. He was a big part of the show’s success and is much-loved by the fans.”

Check out the full article here.

The interesting part here is STV is reporting something reported by The Daily Express, who claims to have gotten the info from a “Doctor Who insider”.  It may be something, or it may be nothing.  If something, I would love to be kept in the dark until the credit sequence of that episode runs across my tv screen.  But I’d also love to be barraged with a series of announcements over the next few weeks confirming all the remaining Doctors are coming back.  Until then… who knows?

Episode 79 – Prognosticating Podcasters

In this week’s episode we take an “evening newscast” look at things as we review the remarkable Torchwood: Children of Earth mini-series. We go almost step by step through the monumental television event that changed the series and mood of the Whonivers on the whole.

Also, a bit of serendipity, (or perhaps we just channeled our inner fortune tellers powers) as Dr. Phil points out that CERN is about to announce the Higgs boson or “God Particle” has been found. A bit spooky, huh?

Plus, a look at other things making news in Doctor Who including some speculation on a possible start date for Series 7.

And of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!

UPDATE: It was brought to our attention that the feed was not updating yesterday (thanks Dr. Phil). The problem should now be resolved. Sorry for any inconvience this caused our listeners.

UPDATE 2: Here’s David Warners IMDb page, for those interested, we forgot to post it…

Happy Birthday, Lalla Ward!

Lalla Ward of course played opposite Tom Baker’s fourth Doctor as Princess Astra in “The Armageddon Factor” and later became Romanadvoratrelundar or Romana for short. Often referred to as Romana II, (since she replaced Mary Tamm) a role she held from “Destiny Of The Daleks” up through “Warrior’s Gate”.  Today is her 61st birthday.

Episode 78 – Now With Higgs Particle

In this week’s episode we review The Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane story (and one of Shaun’s favorites) The Android Invasion.

Then, in a lead up to next week’s Torchwood Series three review, we give our thoughts on the BBC audio play, Torchwood – Lost Souls.

Also, we have another review from our UK correspondent Philip Malkin on The 11th Hour, the three day convention last weekend in Birmingham, England.

Happy 40th Birthday… Glenn Bartlett!

Please join us in wishing our very own Glenn Bartlett a very happy 40th birthday.  Glenn of course, is one of the co-hosts of Traveling The Vortex, a producer for Berkeley Square, married, a father of two, and unfortunate owner of an iPhone, and when he isn’t talking Who, shooting films, garage sale-ing with the family, or arguing with Siri, he also produces the 6 and 10pm news casts for KSNT television here in Topeka.  If you’d like to send him your own well wishes, you can reach him on twitter, @vortexglenn.  Happy birthday, buddy.

Episode 77 – What a Wonderful Butler, He’s So Violent!

In this week’s episode, we take a look at the Classic Doctor Who story, City of Death starring the Fourth Doctor and Romana II. We give our reviews on this David Fisher, Douglas Adams and Graham Williams collaboration.

Also, a report on The 11th Hour, the three day convention this past weekend in Birmingham, England.

Plus, a look at some other news, and of course your feedback!

And stick around after our review as Dr. Phil Serna takes us through the music of City of Death.

Enjoy!
