Podcast Feed Hiccup

Due to a few technical issues last night, Episode 4 had to be deleted from the feed. It has been uploaded again, but might re-feed to your chosen podcast aggregator. We apologize for the problem. Also, we are trying to resolve the issue of our logo not showing up in iTunes for those who subscribe there. Thank you for your patience on that matter as well.

UPDATE – More technical issues with the episode. The file that is feeding seems to be corrupt. We are working to fix the issue at this time. Please bear with us.

Episode 5 – Silurians, Sea Devils, and Myrka, Oh My!

After more technical issues (and as I have discovered, a few user issues) Episode 5 is now on the feeds.

In this episode, we review three Classic Doctor Who stories, Doctor Who and the Silurians, The Sea Devils, and Wariors of the Deep. We also talk about some new DW related toys. Be sure to send us feedback on this week’s episode. Send feedback to travelingthevortex@gmail.com.

New Poll

This week we are asking you to vote on which of the Doctor’s adversaries we should go back and review next. Let us know what you think in the poll on the right hand side of the page.

UPDATE – Three votes so far, and they are canceling each other out. Interestingly enough, no votes yet for The Master, who is probably The Doctors most famous adversary only second to the Daleks. Keep the votes coming!

Ode To A Myrka

Poor misunderstood nightmare from the abyss!
Why must they sneer and laugh when they should tremble in fear?
Do they not see the power rippling beneath your glistening rubber flanks
or the strength of those lumbering limbs?
Watertight bulkhead doors are no match for you!
Can they not feel the static crackling in the air generated by your very presence
as they wait for the shock of your electric hug?
Transfixed by your unflinching stare or fleeing in terror,
firing ineffectual weapons in retreat, the outcome is all but assured.
You are the battering ram, the tip of the spear,
the advance chaos clearing the way for Sea Devil shock troops.
A Silurian’s best friend,
Monster, myth, mesmerizing mediocrity.
My mighty, maligned Myrka.

Rock Band 3 Challenge: Action Shots

Rock Band Challenge

Well, David Tennant has joined our band. No, not really, but as part of our Episode Four challenge, we wanted to see how many Doctors we could create on Rock Band 3. Here’s my new and improved David Tennant in some action shots!
Don’t forget, we want to see YOUR creations! Just create a character, then “Doctor” them up, take a photo and send it too us and we’ll post it!

I’m sure mine will go through a few more revisions as I complete more challenges, thus unlocking more outfit options, (this still isn’t quite the right suit for him) so I’ll definately keep you appraised of my progress.

My gal Mel has even said since I’m doing Doctors, she might try her hand at companions!

Rock on…

Rockin’ The Doctor

In this week’s episode we issued a challenge to Shaun and the listeners to send us your Doctor Who inpired Rock Band characters. Shaun is hard at work on the first draft of Ten, and I have to say, from what I’ve seen it looks pretty impressive.

If you have some images of your DW inspired characters, please send them to us to feature on the blog!

You can send photos to travelingthevortex@gmail.com, or post them on our Facebook page.

Shaun promises me to have some of his own creations up on the blog very soon.

UPDATE – Very rough draft of Ten, but honestly when Shaun sent it to me I knew who it was even before I knew he did it in Rock Band 3. I will update the post when he gets further along.

UPDATE 2 Shaun, with the help of Keith and others has updated his Tenth Doctor character. This one is much closer to David Tennant as the Doctor.

Play Doctor Who with your LEGO®

From ActiveDad.co.uk

Doctor Who is now (unofficially) LEGO Compatible! The Character Building range of Doctor Who toys has nothing to do with LEGO but the bricks and characters work together. We had a play at Toy Fair 2011.

£1.99 buys you one of a series of 10 characters and you don’t know which one you’ve bought until you open the packet. We announced the launch of these toys last week and now we’ve got our hands on them we’re even more excited.

You’ll have a few months to buy the characters and swap them with your friends. Daleks, Amy, the Doctor and all the rest of the alien hordes are collectible. The theory behind these toys is to perfect the figurines with a world of Doctor Who scenes to build and save for. The Inside of the Tardis is the most expensive item for £49.99.

New Poll

In this weeks episode of Traveling the Vortex, we had a little fun and asked you, the listener, to take a look at Keith’s haircut and tell us if it would be considered “emo hair”.

However, we put Keith in charge of posting this weeks poll and either he remembered it incorrectly, or just didn’t want his picture posted, and he asked if you think Matt Smith has “emo hair”.

So, as it is, we will leave the poll question intact, but we still want to know if Keith has that certain hairstyle.

Below is a picture of Keith. You decide, and leave us feedback on this post.

Ambassadors Of Death Delayed

According to a tweet from @classicdw on Twitter earlier today, the DVD release of the Third Doctor story “The Ambassadors of Death” has been delayed due to ongoing restoration issues.

In the tweet 2|Entertain says “Due to ongoing restoration issues, Ambassadors of Death will now not be released in 2011. #doctorwho”.

The company had hoped to get the story out later this year and it was due to be released along with the 1977 story The Sun Makers as part of it’s “The Solar System” box set.

Only one episode currently exists in it’s original color format, with the others kept as 16mm black and white film.

An off air recording of “Ambassadors” from WNED Channel 17 in Buffalo was used to restore episodes five and six to color for it’s 2002 VHS release.

2|Entertain has said it is working to restore the story through colorization techniques.

Episode 4 – Tragedy Tomorrow, Comedy Tonight

In this episode of Traveling the Vortex, we discuss filming of “Torchwood: Miracle Day” starting in the U.S.

Also congratulations to David Tennant and Georgia Moffat on their impending new arrivals and wedding date.

Also in this episode, DVD discussion and plans for a review of some of the classic material.

Plus a review of “The Vampires of Venice”, “Amy’s Choice”. “The Hungry Earth” and “Cold Blood”. Technical Difficulties

We are currently experiencing some issues with uploading the latest episode to our server. We have been informed that the problem is being looked at, but in the meantime there will be a delay in getting the next show out on the feeds. Keep checking back, and we will let you know when it becomes available.
