The first half of Series Seven is drawing to a close, but not before an in-depth look at the character of the Ponds. In this week’s episode, we take a look at the Eleventh Doctor story, “The Power of Three”.
But first a look back at another UNIT story, and the Brig’s last Doctor Who “proper”, Battlefield.
And some sad news in the Doctor Who world, the announcement by Janet Fielding that she has been diagnosed with cancer. Our reaction to the news.
Hello again, Kansas Crew! I originally just wanted to write about “The Power of Three”, but I was gutted to hear the news about Janet Fielding. There’s something tragic and bizarre the way cancer is attacking these former companions. Of course, the reality is that this happens to families everywhere and everyday, it’s just hitting our Whovian family so hard. My deepest prayers go out to Janet and her loved ones. Do you know of any way we American fans can help contribute to the charity event happening in the UK? OK, let’s change the mood. I loved “The Power of Three”! After “A Town Called Mercy”, I’m so glad everyone was feeling better and liked this too! Hahahaa! Really, what a love letter to The Pond Era! My favorite part was the Doctor and Amy talking outside UNIT HQ. THIS is the episode I’d introduce someone new to Who with, just so they could watch this scene! I’d tell them most stories have much more action, but this captures something essential about the Doctor and his connections to his companions. I’ve heard that this was the last of the 5 stories to be recorded, and that last scene of the 3 entering the TARDIS the last shot. Can you imagine the tears after that door closes? POSSIBLE KEITH SPOILER!!! Finally, since it wasn’t discussed (and I don’t know if you’re keeping this from Keith), have you ever seen “Downtime”, the fan produced story? It features Sarah-Jane and Victoria, but the Brig is the star, and introduces Kate Stewart and his grandson!! This story might make it canon now!! (Even if it isn’t, it’s a great story to see!) Love the podcast! Take care!!
