Children in Need: Doctor Who Timeslot

Reposted from Doctor Who News

The new issue of the Radio Times (12-18 Nov) confirms the time of the Christmas Special preview as being in the 8:00-8:30pm timeslot during this year’s Children in Need on 18th November, promising “an exclusive treat from Doctor Who”.

This is the same slot as broadcast last year – with Children in Need being a live show, the time can only be estimated and won’t be known until during the programme itself!

The title of the episode itself is expected to be revealed in the next couple of weeks.

Happy Belated Birthday Richard Hurndall

“Okay, really, this is becoming a bit of a habbit, isnt it?  The constantly running late?  What is this, Vortex Time?  Am I being punished for something?  Why cant you just take me to the date I asked for instead of dropping me off later when I cant be proactive?  Hmmm?  I swear it’s like you have a mind of your own, silly old thing.”

Sorry, just had to have a brief discussion with Traveling The Vortex’s birthday TARDIS, which refuses to behave and consequently, we missed another one.  November 3rd would have been the late Richard Hurndall’s “Bilbo Bagins” birthday, (as in one hundred and eleventh).

Richard stood in for William Harntell as the first Doctor in the 20th anniversary special, “The Five Doctors”.  Happy birthday!

Podcast Delayed

Just a reminder that this week’s Traveling The Vortex (Episode 40) will be delayed slightly, as all three of us were on vacation (or holiday if you prefer) this week, and Glenn has not yet made it back into town.  We debated moving on without him, but with this being the finale of series six, it just didnt seem right.

And besides, he’s the only one who knows how to run the software!

We should be heading into the studio Tuesday night and will shoot for having it up on the feeds Wednesday.  Next week should see us return to our regular release schedule.

Saving Doctor Who Confidential

From ATVToday:

Doctor Who fans have launched a campaign on Twitter to save the BBC Three behind-the-scenes series Doctor Who Confidential.  The BBC announced earlier today that controller Zai Bennett had culled yet another series, Doctor Who Confidential. Most casualties so far have been comedies but with cuts at the corporation looming Confidential has fallen victim to the axe.

Doctor Who fans are not ones to take cancellation lightly and within hours of the news had launched a campaign on Twitter to try and save the series. Doctor Who Confidential has accompanied the BBC series since its revival in 2005 and has offered fans a behind-the-scenes look at every episode made since then. The documentary series has featured interviews with key cast and crew members over the years such as Billie Piper, David Tennant, Catherine Tate, John Barrowman, Phil Collinson, Julie Gardner, Russell T. Davies and Steven Moffat.

So far over 8500 fans have signed up to the campaign on and the series was only axed this afternoon!

To join the campaign yourself, click HERE to join @SaveDWC on Twitter and HERE to sign the petition.

Loose Threads: Around The Vortex 9/26/11

* In addition to Peter Davison and Alex Kingston (the 5th Doctor and River Song respectively), Chicago Tardis is firming up their guest list for the upcoming November convention.  Big names from Big Finish include Jason Haigh-Ellery (producer), Nicholas Briggs (writer/director and voice of the Daleks/Cybermen), Lisa Bowerman, (Bernice Summerfield) and the new 7th Doctor companion Beth Chalmers.

Other writers/editors/publisher include Ben Aaronovitch (7th Doctor era stories), Dr. Arnold T. Blumberg (Howe’s Transendental Toybox), Graeme Burk and Robert Smith (Time Unincorporated and the forthcoming Who Is The Doctor), Benjamin Cook (A Writer’s Tale, Christa Dickson and Lars Pearson (Mad Norwegian Press) and Tony Lee (IDW Doctor Who comics).  Their website promises more to come…

One change to the program is Toby Hadoke (Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf) who will be unable to attend.

* Doctor Who Magazine recently announced the show will return for another 13 episode season seven in 2012, but as many of us suspected, it WILL be broken into two parts, and it WILL start in the fall of 2012.  So once the current season six wraps next week with “The Wedding Of River Song”, we’ll get a Christmas special, and then no new who for about 8 months.  I feel withdrawals kicking in already.

* And lastly, Matt Smith is chomping at the bit to get to the 50th anniversary special, and he’d love for it to be in 3D.  “I love making Doctor Who, and I get to be part of that 50th year which they’ll do something mental for,” he tells Bang Showbiz.  “You know it will be brilliant.  I’m interested in all the 3D stuff.  If it could be filmed for 3D TV that would be fun, especially with Doctor Who, but it’s very expensive.  I don’t know how they’d do it.”

I imagine something with void stuff.
