Happy St. Scheduling Day!

You all know the patron saint of scheduling, right? Well she just came down from the calendar tower and bestowed the next few weeks upon us mere mortals. And because we like you. I mean, we really, really like you, we’re sharing with you…

Friday Night Who on 2/19 is a return to NuWho with “The Girl Who Died”

Traveling The Vortex episode #269 will have our experiences at the local Empower Comic Con, and our first TTV Book Club Review of the year with Doctor Who: The Legends of Ashildr (Doctor Who E-Books) by Justin Richards, James Goss, David Llewellyn, and Jenny Colgan.

We’ll be watching the fifth Doctor Peter Davidson story “Frontios” on 3/4 for Friday Night Who.

and TTV #271 will have our review and discussion of “Frontios”.

FNW 3/11 is “The Hand Of Fear”.

Which should set us up nicely in TTV #272 for the TTV Book Club Review The Drosten’s Curse by A.L. Kennedy.

Friday Night Who on 3/18 once again, is “Day Of The Doctor”.

Which set us up nicely for TTV #273, our Beyond The Doctor: John Hurt. We’ll be watching 1984.

TTV #274 is Big Finish #68 Catch-1782, and more Titan Comics 12th Doctor #11-15.

Beyond that? More Beyond the Doctors, more book reviews, more Big Finish, and more being awesome. What more could you want?

Episode 268 – Reconstruction of the Fables

ttv_logo_newIn this week’s show we dip our collective toes in the waters of what is often called a reconstructed or ‘recon’ story in Doctor Who. We examine the First Doctor story, The Crusade, featuring Ian, Barbara and Vicki. We give our impressions on the television story, including the two missing episodes, lovingly reconstructed with the use of telesnaps and scrolling text by the group, Loose Canon. And, we couple that with a review of the novelization, Doctor Who and the Crusaders, written by David Whitaker, who also wrote the TV story.

Plus, some announcements and a look at the news-of-the-week.

And, of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!

Friday Night Who 2/12

Bare with us this week’s Friday Night Who is a bit of an experiment, as we’re watching a story with 2 missing episodes.

Episode 267 – Anything but Consistent

TTV LOGO NEWIn this week’s show we step away again briefly for another Beyond the Doctor segment, this time to review a film starring Eighth Doctor actor, Paul McGann. We chose the very popular British film from 1987, Withnail & I. We give our impressions on McGann’s performance, as well as that of alternative Ninth Doctor (or Shalka Doctor), Richard E. Grant. It’s a two-for-one this time it would appear.

Also, a breakdown and our reaction to the news of the week.

And of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!

Episode 266 – Brought to You By…

ttv_logo_newIn this episode of the podcast, we begin our reviews of Series 2 of Big Finish’s Eighth Doctor Adventures, starring Paul McGann and Sheridan Smith. We start off with the first two entries in the series, Dead London and Max Warp. We share our opinions of the episodes, and give our impressions of the stories and performances.

Also, some news to talk about this week, including the recent loss of Doctor Who in the U.S. on the streaming services Netflix and Hulu. We discuss what it could mean for the series and it’s ability to attract new viewers to the show.

And, of course, your feedback.

ttv_logo_newIn this week’s podcast we revisit the novel Lethbridge-Stewart: Beast of Fang Rock by Andy Frankham-Allen, for a spoiler filled review of the book. We give our no holds barred review of the story in the continuing line of books.

Before that, however, we review another story in Candy Jar Books’ range of Lethbridge-Stewart stories, this time the short story entitled, The Cult of the Grinning Man by Tom Dexter which precedes Beast of Fang Rock in the chronology.

And, finally we are joined this week by friend-of-the-show, Andy Frankham-Allen. Andy shares some insight into the the line, as well as how he came to write and help steer the ship for the series.

Plus, we discuss the news that Steven Moffat is leaving Doctor Who, and that we will only see one story this year before the series is moved to the Spring of 2017.

And, of course, your feedback.

Enjoy!

Episode 264 – Searching for Sylvester

ttv_logo_newIn this week’s podcast we return to our “Beyond the Doctor” installments and pick up where we left off last year with Seventh Doctor actor, Sylvester McCoy. This time we look at the 1979 horror film, Dracula, also starring Frank Langella in the title role as well as Laurence Olivier, Donald Pleasence and Kate Nelligan. We give our impression of the film as a whole, as well as the performance (what little there was) of McCoy.

Also, news of the week, some sad, but some happy.

And of course, your… oops, no. Mailbox issues may be to blame for the lack of feedback this week. Well, that’s what we’re telling ourselves this time.

Enjoy!

Friday Night Who 1/15

We are returning to our Beyond the Doctor series this year, starting with the 7th Doctor Sylvester McCoy…so for Friday Night Who this week we return to one of his stories we haven’t watched since June of 2011!

Side Trip 19 – After, After Christmas Special

ttv_logo_newSurprise! We found one more Christmas gift as we took down the tree in the Traveling the Vortex studio, and the name on the tag is you! You know that inevitable gift that got shoved to the very back and slipped behind the tree skirt, only to be found waaaaaay after the holidays.

Well, our oversight in your benefit, because you get an extra treat in your feed this week.

We decided to review a special short story released especially for Christmas by our friends over at Candy jar Books. This is another tale set in the Lethbridge Stewart line called The Fright Before Christmas, written by Tom Dexter. We give our impressions of the story filled with alien spheres, Santa Claus and Buckingham Palace.

It can still be downloaded for free on Candy Jar Books’ website.

Enjoy!!!

Episode 263 – Batteries Not Included

ttv_logo_newIn this week’s show we say goodbye to Ian and Barbara as they leave the TARDIS crew, but we welcome the Doctor’s next traveling companion Steven. But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. First we review Ian and Barbara’s final adventure as they flee with the Doctor and Vicki from the Daleks, landing at several locations in the Terry Nation penned story, The Chase.

We also take this opportunity to deliver another Adversary Archive edition of the podcast, this time featuring the Mechanoids. We explore The World That Waits which was printed in the Dalek Annual, ‘The Dalek World’, printed in 1965. Then we look two comic stories printed in the pages of ‘TV Century 21’ with Eve of War and Impasse. Then we round out the archive with a newer story from the pages of ‘Doctor Who Files 11: The Cult of Skaro’ with a story called Birth of a Legend.

Plus, we look at a few news items of the week.

And, of course, your feedback.
