Lauren Ambrose Joins Newly Renamed Torchwood: Miracle Day

According to Spinoff Online

Six Feet Under star Lauren Ambrose has signed on for the highly anticipated fourth season of Torchwood, newly retitled as Torchwood: Miracle Day.

Entertainment Weekly reports that she’ll appear in seven of the 10 episodes as Jilly Kitzinger, “a sweet-talking PR genius with a heart of stone who’s just cornered the most important client of her career … and maybe of all time.” Ambrose joins returning stars John Barrowman and Eva Myles, recent additions Bill Pullman, Mekhi Phifer (Lie to Me, ER) and the just-cast Alexa Havins (All My Children) and Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse).

Previously called Torchwood: The New World, the co-production of Starz and BBC Worldwide tried on its new title last week as creator Russell T. Davies revealed the first plot details during the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

“The premise is a miracle happens in the world,” Davies said. “One day, on Earth, no one dies. The next day, no one dies. The day after that, no one dies. The [people who are] dying, keep dying … but don’t actually die. The possibility of death ceases to exist. Which is great for some people. But it’s an instant overnight population boom. The earth relies on people dying … What is society going to do now? Some of the answers are beautiful and brave. Some of the reactions are terrifying.”

Torchwood: Miracle Day began production this week, and will debut on Starz and BBC One on July 1.

River Song / Weeping Angels 101

Well, it looks like Keith will be delving all the way back into Weeping Angels lore (at least all that we fans know about them, anyway.)

This weeks poll asked if Keith should watch “Blink” and “Silence in the Library” / “Forest of the Dead” duo-logy before tackling “The Time of Angels” and “Flesh and Stone”. You spoke and Keith listened, so he has begun his crash coarse on the origins of both story lines.

Fortunately for him there is little of Ten to worry about in “Blink” to add to the confusion, however, he is about to get a double dose of Tennant’s Doctor AND Donna Noble in Season Four.

We are still discussing whether or not to split this week’s discussion in two. I guess you’ll have to wait to find out in the next episode of Traveling the Vortex, coming very soon!

Poll Closes Soon!

There are just a few hours left to vote on our web poll on whether Keith should watch “Blink” and “Silence in the Library” / “Forest of the Dead” duo-logy BEFORE “The Time of Angels” and “Flesh and Stone”. You can find the poll on the right hand side of the blog. Happy voting!

Episode 2 – Fishfingers, Beasties, and Daleks!

Episode 2 of Traveling the Vortex is now available on the feed!

This week we talk a bit about Torchwood: Miracle Day, and the Dr. Who YouTube Channel. Keith has watched the first three episodes of Season 5 since then, so we discuss what he and the others thought of them. We round out the episode by discussing how Keith should continue. What do you think? Should he go back and watch Blink, Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead before continuing on to The Time of Angels and Flesh and Stone? Sound off and let us know!

UPDATE: In this episode we also talked about the opening theme, and that it represents our passion for gaming, particularly from the late 80’s and early 90’s (or the NES years). Giving credit where credit is due, here is a link to composer, ShatteredDreams888’s YouTube channel where the theme comes from.

The plot of Miracle Day (SPOILERS):

  • One day, nobody dies. All across the world, nobody dies. And then the next day, and the next, and the next, people keep aging — they get hurt and sick — but they never die. The result: a population boom, overnight. With all the extra people, resources are finite. It’s said that in four months’ time, the human race will cease to be viable. But this can’t be a natural event – someone’s got to be behind it. It’s a race against time as C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson investigates a global conspiracy. The answers lie within an old, secret British institute. As Rex keeps asking “What is Torchwood?”, he’s drawn into a world of adventure, and a threat to change what it means to be human, forever.

River Song on the Late Late Show

Don’t forget to set your DVRs tonight. Alex Kingston (River Song) is on The Late Late Show With Craig Freguson tonight on CBS. I also understand that the Doctor Who cold open planned for the night Matt Smith was on, was finally cleared by their legal department. So if you didn’t catch it on YouTube, tonight could be a special treat.
